About The Position

FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Child and Family Development. Fort Valley State University, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students including graduate students. The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences invites applications for a full-time Assistant / Associate Professor, Child and Family Development. The Assistant / Associate Professor, Child and Family Development will develop an integrated program involving teaching and extension focused on health and wellness and youth and family development. The Assistant/ Associate Professor of Child and Family Development will participate as a full-time faculty member in a 10- month, tenure track appointment with 75% Teaching and 25% Extension.

Requirements

  • Doctorate in family studies, child/human development, and/or a related area or closely related field

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Family and Consumer Sciences related concepts and principles, with an emphasis on infant and child development
  • Experience in extension or public outreach
  • Potential to acquire extra-mural funding to support extension program

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses related to family and consumer sciences and infant and child development.
  • Advise undergraduate students within the family and consumer sciences major.
  • Coordinate and supervise student practicum/field experiences.
  • Participate with student recruitment and retention activities.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and stakeholders to address issues related to health and wellness and youth and family development such as lifestyle choices of youth, parenting, relationships, child and elderly care, and education.
  • Generate, translate, apply, and disseminate research-based information that can be used to support and empower families locally and in surrounding communities and inform educational programming for youth.
  • Execute any other duties and responsibilities assigned by supervisor.
