About The Position

This is a tenure track position. The Assistant Professor, Mathematics, is responsible for teaching various mathematics courses and providing advisement to students. The individual reports to the Division Director of Math, IT, & Engineering Sciences. This is a 9-month, permanent tenure track position.

Requirements

• A master’s degree in mathematics (or mathematics education) plus, a minimum of at least two years teaching experience in mathematics, preferably at a Community College, are required.
• The prospective faculty member must demonstrate that he/she is able to teach the content of the courses that make up the mathematics course offerings at the College. The courses include Elementary Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, College Level Mathematics, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus.
• A candidate for appointment to the rank of Associate Professor shall be required to meet the following qualifications: An earned doctorate or the highest appropriate credential in the field of specialization, or experience and achievements comparable to the doctorate A record of scholarship and professional growth At least five (5) years of full-time teaching experience in an institution of higher education, including three (3) years as an Assistant Professor. (Community college experience preferred).Appropriate professional experience and achievements may be substituted when formal teaching experience is limited or absent.
• A candidate for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor shall be required to meet the following qualifications: An appropriate terminal degree or agree to complete this degree within a period of time to be specified in the terms of the initial contract At least three (3) years of full-time teaching experience, including two (2) years in an institution of higher education. Appropriate professional experience and achievements may be substituted when formal teaching experience is limited or absent. When formal teaching experience is limited or absent, the candidate shall be required to demonstrate verifiable potential for effective teaching.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in teaching students who are under-prepared or unpaired in mathematics a plus.
• Some experience with instructional technology and Blackboard is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Teaches a minimum of 4-courses per semester in mathematics, including developmental mathematics courses.
• Assists with recruitment of new students, advises and assists with the retention of current students; answers student inquiries (emails and voice mail messages) in a timely manner.
• Engages in scholarly activities and community service.
• Conducts a minimum of five office hours per week.
• Help to develop and teach appropriate online courses.
• Teach during the day, evening, and/or weekend; may include more than one campus site.
• Participate in the college governance process and college-wide committees.
• Adhere to college and program policies and procedures.
• Participates fully in curriculum development and revision.
• Recommends selection of textbooks and other instructional materials.
• Familiarity with and conducts assessment of student learning outcomes (course and curriculum levels) in accordance with the standards of the College and Middle States Commission of Higher Education.
