About The Position

This is a nine-month appointment. The anticipated start date is August 2026. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications. Lamar University and faculty in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction seek a qualified, tenure-track faculty member to teach, mentor, and advise students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. This position requires the candidate to provide engaging and effective instruction in face-to-face, hybrid, and virtual learning environments. The primary focus of the instruction will require expertise in emergent literacy. However, this position may be required to teach an occasional course across the education department (Intro to Education, Human Development and Learning, etc.) Candidates should be committed to collegiality and continuous improvement based upon qualitative and quantitative data. Along with teaching, a faculty member selected for this position will be expected to have a record, or an emerging record, of scholarship in the primary content area. Tenure-track faculty will be expected to present at conferences in their field, publish findings from their research, and seek external funding. Additionally, faculty are asked to engage in service to the department, college, and university.

Requirements

  • Earned doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction, with an emphasis in Literacy, or a doctorate in Literacy. (Doctoral students preparing to defend their dissertation may be considered.)
  • EC-3 or EC-6 Certification
  • Minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience in a school district (public or private) at the kinder or first grade level
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Emerging Research Agenda
  • Ability to travel and work beyond normal office hours
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Experience using Blackboard or similar LMS
  • Six years as an Assistant Professor or currently an Associate Professor
  • Active Research Agenda
  • Evidence of successful scholarship in the field through presentations, grant funds, and publications
  • Prior experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in multiple modalities
  • Knowledge of state Teaching Certification Exams
