Assistant Professor of Literacy
About The Position
The Department of Curriculum & Instruction in the College of Education and Human Development is seeking applications for a full-time tenure-track position in Literacy at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in Fall 2026. A regional comprehensive university, Texas A&M University-San Antonio (A&M-SA) has approximately 8000 students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs, including the MS in Reading. Part of the statewide Texas A&M University System, the University is a Hispanic Serving Institution. Quality performance will be expected in the areas of teaching, scholarship, and service. The standard teaching load for tenure-track faculty is 3 courses per semester (3/3). Summer teaching assignments may be available for additional pay but are not guaranteed. Successful candidates will teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in literacy-focused topics such as the science of teaching reading, oral language development, content area reading, dyslexia, language arts methods, etc. Teaching assignments may include day, night, and/or weekend classes.
Requirements
- Doctoral Degree from a regionally accredited institution in Literacy education or a related field in education (Candidates who are ABD are encouraged to apply).
- K-12 teacher certification with a minimum of 3 years of K-12 teaching experience.
- Experience working with multicultural populations.
Nice To Haves
- K-12 teacher certification with a minimum of 5 years of K-12 teaching experience.
- Minimum of one (1) year of university teaching experience.
- Experience with learning management systems.
Responsibilities
