Performs teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions. The Photonics Initiative of the Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC) at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York (CUNY) is seeking an Assistant, Associate or Full Professor tenure-track faculty member to join in Fall 2025 or Spring 2026. The Graduate Center is the focal point for advanced teaching and research at CUNY, the nation's largest urban public university. With over 35 doctoral and master's programs of the highest caliber, the Graduate Center fosters pioneering research and scholarship in the arts and sciences and prepares students for careers in universities and the private, nonprofit, and government sectors. The Graduate Center's commitment to research and scholarship for the public good is exemplified by its more than 30 centers, institutes, and initiatives, including its Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC), a 200,000 square-foot facility in upper Manhattan, designed to promote collaboration among scientists in five areas of global research and innovation: nanoscience, photonics, structural biology, neuroscience, and environmentalsciences. The ASRC builds upon the University's rich past to become a national leader in visionary scientific research, addressing critical societal challenges. Drawing from its expertise concentrated in the fields of Photonics, Nanoscience, Structural Biology, Neuroscience, and Environmental Sciences, the ASRC fosters the development of a university-wide research network that brings together faculty, students, and post-doctoral fellows from CUNY's colleges across the five boroughs. This state-of-the-art facility houses a staff of scientists chosen for their exceptional leadership in interdisciplinary research. Intrinsic to the mission of the ASRC is its capacity to break down the barriers currently separating disparate, but increasingly inter-related, disciplines of basic and applied research. ASRC's Photonics Initiative has established itself as a leading optics and photonics research center in New York City, nationwide and internationally. The Photonics Initiative has over 40 active researchers and two established core user facilities in nanophotonics and in radio frequency (RF) and millimeter waves, with a broad range of users from across CUNY, other academic institutions, and industry. We seek an outstanding scientist with strong record of significant research accomplishments in one or more of the following fields: nanophotonics, plasmonics, nano-optics, quantum optics, optomechanics, terahertz technology, ultrafast spectroscopy, nonlinear optics, electromagnetic theory and applications, metamaterials, biophotonics, and other fields broadly related to photonics and electromagnetics. The successful candidate will engage in research, teaching and mentorship of students and laboratory members; make key contributions to shape the ASRC's cross-disciplinary program; develop educational programming at CUNY, and initiate new interdisciplinary collaborative projects and activities across CUNY and other research institutions. This position reports to the ASRC Photonics Initiative Director.
