About The Position

SUNY Polytechnic Institute's Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in Civil Engineering, with a teaching and research focus in Infrastructure Engineering. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research applies data science, machine learning, or artificial intelligence to advancing smart, resilient, and sustainable civil infrastructure systems. The successful candidate will contribute to our ABET-accredited B.S. program in Civil Engineering, which meets national and regional workforce needs and offers graduates strong career opportunities. The department is expanding rapidly, with a newly approved MS in Civil Engineering, additional new master's programs underway and a Ph.D. program in development within the next two years, providing significant opportunities to shape graduate education. This position offers the chance to play a key role in a young, vibrant, and fast-growing department, with strong expectations for collaboration through the newly established Center for Smart Infrastructure and Sustainability (CSIS) along with other Pillar areas of SUNY Poly: Healthcare & Wellbeing; Materials, Robotics & Advanced Manufacturing; AI and Information Technology. The successful candidate will: Demonstrate a commitment to excellent teaching in the structural or geotechnical areas of civil engineering and in the lower division engineering sciences. The ability to teach and support courses from a breadth of disciplines within civil engineering is a plus. Have a track record of outstanding academic and scholarly achievements in their area of research. Will be able to develop an externally funded research program. Preference will be given to candidates with research experience, teaching experience at the collegiate level and a strong background related to and capable of supporting SUNY Poly's emerging interests in engineering and the impact of engineering and STEM related work on modern society. The civil engineering program currently consists of five tenure-track faculty members, whose teaching and research expertise includes structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, transportation engineering, and environmental engineering. It would be expected that the successful candidate's research interests would complement the interests of existing civil engineering faculty at SUNY Poly. Candidates should have the ability to become licensed professional engineers.
