Position Summary Houston Christian University (HCU) announces a full-time position for Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Counseling to begin Fall 2024 and after. The Department of Counseling is part of the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences in the School of Behavioral Science (CoEBS). The Department houses the Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Christian Counseling, Marriage & Family Therapy, Human Services, as well as Professional School Counseling.

Requirements

  • A completed doctorate in counseling from a regionally accredited program
  • Counselor Education from a CACREP accredited program or Marriage & Family Therapy Education from a COAMFTE accredited program Or recognized as grandfathered in as core faculty
  • Hold a license as a Professional Counselor or Marriage & Family Therapist in Texas (or have commensurate licensure in another state and be license-eligible in Texas)
  • Hold a professional affiliation with the counseling/mental health profession through licensure, professional development, membership in relevant associations, research/scholarly activity and service in the field of counseling/mental health/marriage & family

Nice To Haves

  • LPC-S and/or LMFT-S is preferred.
  • Administrative/leadership experience (e.g., Director, Chair or higher) is preferred.
  • Hold a license as a LPC-Supervisor, LMFT-Supervisor preferred
  • Hold a Texas School Counseling Certification-preferred
  • Previous experience in leadership as a Director, Chair or higher.

Responsibilities

  • Strong preparation for teaching graduate level clinical courses that integrate Christianity and clinical mental health counseling/marriage & family therapy is required.
  • The successful candidate is expected to teach primarily in the Counseling Department programs; online teaching may be included.
  • Applicant should have graduate level teaching experience, instructional technology skills and the ability to serve on and chair various committees as well as dissertation committees in the Doctor of Education as applicable.
  • In addition to teaching, faculty members are expected to be productive scholars and active in service to students, CoEBS, the university, and the community.
