About The Position

Oro Valley Hospital is a 176-bed, all private-room hospital where technology and skilled professionals come together to provide compassionate, customer-focused care. Services 24/7 emergency care, including Northwest Emergency Center Marana Medical/surgical, telemetry and critical care units Inpatient adult behavioral health unit and outpatient mental health program Sleep center Diagnostic imaging (MRI, CT, X-ray, ultrasound) Post-acute care, including skilled nursing unit and Northwest Transitions Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility (located in Tucson) Inpatient and outpatient therapy, including hand therapy and pelvic floor therapy Robotic-assisted surgery (orthopedics, general surgery, gynecological surgery) Northwest Women's Imaging, including 3D mammography Large primary care and multi-specialty clinic group, employing more than 75 physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants Urgent cares throughout the community Specialties Cardiology Gastroenterology General surgery Gynecology Orthopedics Sleep medicine Urology Accreditations Accredited by the Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center, with Gold Seal™ designation Recognized as an AZDHS Cardiac Receiving Center by the Save Hearts in Arizona Registry and Education (SHARE) Program Skilled Nursing Unit Rated 5-Stars by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Job Summary The Assistant Administrator serves as a member of the hospital's senior management team and participates in operational decision-making processes to support the organization's mission and goals. This role oversees assigned ancillary departments, assists with organizational initiatives, and develops competency in hospital operations as part of a leadership development pathway. The Assistant Administrator contributes to patient care quality, physician and employee engagement, financial stewardship, and overall hospital performance while preparing for progressive leadership responsibilities. The position serves as part of the leadership development program and will require future relocation to prepare for advancement within the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field required
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA), Healthcare Administration (MHA), or related field required
  • 3-5 years of progressive healthcare leadership experience, overseeing hospital operations departments.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and manage cross-functional relationships.
  • Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate effectively with leadership, team members, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively with others, delegate responsibilities, and independently manage tasks while meeting established deadlines.
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • In depth knowledge of industry best practices and regulatory compliance (if applicable).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with Google and Microsoft platforms, healthcare software systems, and data analysis tools.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees assigned hospital departments, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and standards of performance.
  • Participates in operational decision-making processes, reviews, and performance improvement activities.
  • Assists with organizational initiatives that improve patient satisfaction, physician engagement, and employee experience.
  • Monitors departmental performance and prepares reports to support data-driven decision making.
  • Supports the development, review, and approval of vendor and provider contracts in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Collaborates with financial and nursing leaders to identify opportunities to reduce non-value costs while maintaining quality of care.
  • Assists in the planning, promotion, and implementation of quality and service improvement projects.
  • Develops knowledge of hospital operations, including internal processes and the organization’s role in the community.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • Provides leadership, mentorship and professional development opportunities for departmental staff.
  • Schedules employees to ensure effective use of resources.
  • Consults with leadership on any potential staffing issues.
  • Conducts performance evaluations, sets goals and provides feedback to staff on their performance and development.
  • Collaborates with hospital leadership to set the strategic direction for the department, including budgeting, resource allocation and long-term planning.
  • Monitors expenditures, ensuring cost-effective delivery of services.
  • Evaluates and implements new technologies to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Develops and implements departmental policies and procedures and protocols to optimize quality and overall efficiencies.
  • Ensures compliance with all relevant regulatory bodies.
  • May oversee the accreditation process with relevant agencies ensuring that services meet or exceed industry standards.
  • Participates in audits, inspections and accreditation processes as applicable.
  • Follows established quality control practices to ensure accuracy, consistency and safety.
  • Works closely with leadership teams to coordinate and improve service delivery.
  • Stays up-to-date with industry advancements, new technologies, and regulatory changes.
  • May work in a staff role, when required.
  • Ensures that duties and responsibilities are fulfilled while meeting all competencies established for that job.
