About The Position

The Office of Institutional Assessment and Evaluation (OIAE) at Northeastern University (NU) seeks a motivated, self-starting individual to join our dynamic team as an Assessment Technologist (Half-Time). The successful candidate will help faculty connect their teaching, learning and student assessment practices utilizing primarily the HelioCampus assessment management platform and the Canvas LMS (Learning Management System). These assessment tools are being used for course- and program-level assessment, program review, and continuous improvement of academic program quality across the university. The primary objective of the position is to engage and support faculty and staff in integrating technology for the assessment of student learning outcomes into their teaching practice. This support includes one-on-one consultations, small group meetings, workshops, and creating documentation and training materials. The successful candidate will provide proactive, responsive, and flexible support, including resolving technical issues and tracking faculty engagements. As a critical member of the assessment team, a key goal is to build relationships with faculty and contribute to the assessment ecosystem at NU. The scope of support includes all academic programs across all colleges, and across the NU global network of campuses.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in instructional technology, educational technology, information systems or related fields.
  • Proficiency with common educational technology assessment tools (Canvas Quizzes, Assignments, Canvas Rubrics, Gradescope)
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and work with vendor contacts and support systems.
  • Demonstrated strong writing skills
  • Desire for continuous self-improvement and maintenance of skills through training and demonstrated commitment to professional growth
  • Curious by nature and unafraid of asking questions
  • Self-starter, with a proven track record for creativity and initiative
  • Able to prioritize multiple projects and work streams in a fast-paced environment

Nice To Haves

  • 3-5 years of experience supporting academic technologies, instructional design, and/or course development experience in a higher education environment.
  • M.S. degree in educational technology, instructional design, or related field
  • Experience with the assessment of student learning outcomes, including any assessment software
  • Demonstrated ability to independently create curriculum, training opportunities, and training materials in support of the adoption of educational technology
  • Experience in higher ed, or other academic or research community environment
  • Delivery of group and one-on-one support and training to faculty.
  • Knowledge of database structures and management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and group consultations to link faculty course assignments to student outcomes, primarily using the HelioCampus-Canvas integration, and other methods as needed.
  • Develop proactive strategies to engage faculty in the assessment of student learning outcomes to support academic programs and general education assessment.
  • Track faculty and staff consultations and use of HelioCampus, and follow up to ensure tasks are completed.
  • Support faculty and staff questions on best practices about assessment methods and tools, including HelioCampus, Canvas and other data collection platforms.
  • Co-facilitate the HelioCampus Community of Practice, a forum for hands-on users of the platform.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned
  • Create and maintain multimedia knowledge base documentation for HelioCampus and Canvas integration according to university standards.
  • Create user-friendly guides and resources to support faculty use of HelioCampus.
  • Develop, present, and maintain training sessions and workshops, both online and in-person for faculty, program directors and assessment coordinators.
  • Serve as a technical resource for HelioCampus and Canvas with knowledge of platform capabilities and best practices.
  • Serve as a liaison with Academic Technology to stay current with developments that may impact or facilitate assessment.
  • Support vendor relationships with HelioCampus, representing end-user needs and staying current with vendor roadmap and releases.
  • Assist with testing, planning, and implementation of the assessment management system.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues, submit tickets, and manage vendor support issues.
