About The Position

The Assessment Specialist conducts standardized assessments for homeless men to identify housing barriers and determine the level of service needed. The Schwartz Men’s Shelter is a shelter for men operating 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Clients are referred to the program by the New York City Department of Homeless Services. Requirements

  • Associates Degree or 60 college credits courses in Human Services field or High School Diploma or GED with 2 year of relevant shelter experience.
  • The position also requires a demonstrated ability in verbal and written communication, including basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide standardized assessments to individuals who have entered the shelter.
  • Obtain household verification and background checks as required.
  • Assess client’s housing and services need.
  • Identify immediate housing placement opportunities for clients.
  • Collaborate with area providers to coordinate necessary services.
  • Make referrals to case management, housing search support and other services as appropriate.
