About The Position

The Assembly Supervisor is responsible for leading day-to-day assembly operations to meet production demands, quality standards, and delivery commitments. This role sets priorities, supports execution, and ensures work is completed efficiently and safely. The position oversees the assembly of optical components and systems in a precision, cleanroom environment. It requires strong technical understanding of optical handling, inspection, and measurement to guide work, support troubleshooting, and ensure products meet specification. This role supports a core capability of the organization, with a focus on building high-quality optical assemblies and maintaining a standard of excellence in precision assembly. It is accountable for production output, quality, and on-time delivery, while supporting team development and driving continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, engineering, optics, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience considered
  • 7+ years of experience in assembly or manufacturing in a precision environment
  • 3–5+ years of experience leading technicians or production teams
  • Experience working in a cleanroom or controlled environment required
  • Strong understanding of precision assembly processes and quality requirements
  • Strong attention to detail and care in handling sensitive optical components
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and work instructions
  • Proficiency in precision optical inspection and measurement techniques
  • Working knowledge of cleanroom practices and contamination control
  • Strong problem-solving skills in a production environment
  • Ability to lead, prioritize work, and hold team members accountable
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and make decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective communication skills across technicians and cross-functional teams
  • Basic computer skills for reporting and documentation

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with optical assembly, handling, inspection, and measurement preferred
  • Experience supporting process improvements and shop floor execution
  • Experience supporting new product introduction (NPI) or production readiness preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily assembly operations and execution of production schedules to meet quality and delivery expectations
  • Establish priorities, allocate resources, and manage workflow based on production needs
  • Ensure assembly activities consistently meet strict optical and quality specifications
  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture, including compliance with cleanroom protocols
  • Own production performance, capacity, and output, including defect reduction, rework, and first-pass yield
  • Lead, coach, and hold technicians accountable for performance, quality, and process adherence
  • Plan and adjust staffing and workload to meet production demand
  • Lead or support troubleshooting of assembly, inspection, and process issues
  • Ensure proper use of measurement and inspection equipment, including optical metrology tools
  • Ensure consistent and repeatable assembly processes to maintain product quality
  • Drive continuous improvement in production flow and standard work
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, and Quality to support process improvements and product readiness
  • Support development and training of technicians in precision assembly and optical handling
  • Maintain production records and communicate performance, risks, and issues to leadership
  • Manage timecards and support performance management
  • Ensure availability of materials, tools, and resources required to support production
  • Ensure adherence to defined processes, procedures, and documentation requirements
