About The Position

The Assembly Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations of one or more assembly lines or departments. They ensure products are assembled efficiently, safely, on time, and to high quality standards while meeting production targets, cost goals, and customer requirements. This frontline leadership role emphasizes team management, process optimization, continuous improvement (e.g., Lean principles), and compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The manager drives productivity, minimizes downtime, and fosters a positive, high-performance team culture.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in manufacturing/assembly operations, with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory or management role leading teams on the shop floor.
  • Technical Skills — Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma principles, assembly processes, and tools (e.g., 5S, Kaizen, root cause analysis like 5 Whys or fishbone diagrams); familiarity with ERP/MRP systems, MS Office (especially Excel), and production software.
  • Leadership Skills — Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams; excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making under pressure.
  • Have appropriate basic mechanical skills and aptitude, including using mechanic's tools such as wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, etc. This should be indicated by past performance of mechanical repair, maintenance, or assembly work.
  • Demonstrate appropriate reading, clerical, and basic math skills, including the ability to understand written instructions, maintain production records, and perform routine calculations.
  • Have an excellent work record, including indications of strong self-motivation, high productivity, reliable attendance, attention to quality, ability to learn new skills, and a cordial, cooperative personality that is focused on teamwork.
  • Perform multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to assess, evaluate, and conduct appropriate action for a given situation.

  • Read blueprints, draft routine reports, calculate figures, and apply concepts of fractions, percentages, and ratios.
  • Professional mechanical assembly or repair experience.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee assembly line activities, including workflow coordination, line balancing, setup/changeovers, and daily production execution to achieve throughput, cycle time, and output goals.
  • Plan and schedule assembly activities to meet daily/weekly/monthly production schedules, delivery deadlines, and customer orders while optimizing resource utilization.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by enforcing safety protocols, conducting audits, leading incident investigations, promoting 5S/6S practices, and ensuring compliance with OSHA, ISO, company policies, and environmental regulations.
  • Monitor product quality through inspections, root cause analysis of defects, implementation of corrective actions, and use of tools like poka-yoke, statistical process control, and first-pass yield tracking to minimize scrap, rework, and escapes.
  • Hire, train, coach, and develop assembly supervisors, leads, and operators; conduct performance reviews; schedule shifts/staffing; resolve conflicts; and promote employee engagement and skill development.
  • Identify bottlenecks, waste, and inefficiencies; lead Kaizen events, process improvements, and Lean initiatives (e.g., standard work, visual management, SMED); collaborate on value stream mapping and equipment upgrades.
  • Track and analyze key metrics such as OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), productivity, on-time delivery, cost per unit, downtime, safety incidents, and quality rates; prepare reports and present progress to senior management.
  • Coordinate with supply chain, engineering, maintenance, and quality teams to ensure material availability, equipment reliability (e.g., preventive maintenance), and resolution of technical issues.
  • Lead rapid response to line stoppages, quality issues, or equipment failures; implement countermeasures and preventive actions to sustain improvements.
  • Participate in launching new assemblies, process changes, or engineering updates while minimizing disruption to ongoing production.
  • Work cross-functionally with engineering, quality, procurement, and other departments to align assembly goals with company objectives.
