About The Position

The Principal ASME Section III Engineer is recognized as a subject matter expert within CB&I for ASME Section III (nuclear) components. The role is responsible to review, approve, and certify design calculations, drawings, analysis reports and material selections in accordance with ASME Section III and applicable subsections. The role is expected to serve as the Certifying Engineer for ASME Section III projects and to maintain that certification through project work or other training. The work includes among other things, conceptual studies, design calculations, finite element analysis, specification development and construction documents. The Principal ASME Section III Engineer is expected to work independently with minimal supervision and mentor engineering staff on ASME III design principles, calculation methodology, and technical requirements for certified deliverables. The role reports to the Department or Design Manager and routinely interacts with other Engineers, Quality Assurance personnel, and Operations personnel.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering from an accredited school is required.
  • Professional Engineering License in at least one state is required.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to qualified as a certifying engineer per ASME Section III
  • Experience working in a nuclear safety culture and nuclear QA program

Nice To Haves

  • Cross-functional training such as Graduate Development Program or equivalent is preferred.
  • Experience with ANSYS Workbench

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Certifying Engineer for ASME Section III components, ensuring all design documentation meets Code requirements.
  • Review, approve, and certify design calculations, drawings, analysis reports, and material specifications in accordance with ASME Section III and applicable subsections.
  • Accurately produce deliverables per applicable design code, company standards and customer drawings and specifications. Maintain expert knowledge of current ASME III Code revisions, Code Cases, and industry best practices
  • Support internal and external audits, surveys, and certification activities
  • Mentor engineering staff on ASME III design principles, calculations methodology, and technical requirements for certified deliverables
  • Adhere to regulations and bylaws of local professional engineering jurisdictions and code of ethics in protection of the public and the environment.
  • Ensure designs and details are safe for field erection and use, with constructability in mind.
  • Compare designs and details to as-sold estimate and customer documents and advise project team of discrepancies and potential change notices.
  • Interface closely with Quality Assurance, Procurement, Project Engineering, and Operations on all Code-related issues
  • Forecast how long it will take to do a task – commit to definitive deadlines.
  • Make decisions on project-specific details and advise project team.
  • Generate improvement ideas for tools and workflow associated to the role, and develop investment justification.
  • Implement improvement initiatives within the department and/or broader organization.
  • Contribute to the technical body of knowledge within area of expertise.
  • Maintain a professional license in at least one jurisdiction and approve and stamp project deliverables as needed.
  • Effectively use document management system.
