About The Position

The Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center at Gallaudet University is a federally funded center with exemplary elementary and secondary education programs for deaf and hard of hearing students and is tasked with developing and disseminating innovative curricula, instructional techniques, and products nationwide while providing information, training, and technical assistance for parents and professionals to meet the needs of deaf and hard of hearing students from birth to age 21. Job Description: Primary Responsibilities: ASL Instructors teach various levels in ASL using a given curriculum and demonstrate ASL strategies in the classroom.Other tasks include maintaining logistics, conducting assessments for promotion, and creating a positive learning environment. Must be able to screen out participants and place them in the appropriate class level.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED plus two years of post-secondary education in elementary education, deaf education, ASL teaching, or other related fields.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of ASL curriculum, teaching strategies, and techniques.
  • Demonstrate ability to analyze and assess sign proficiency of participants.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language required.
