The Asbestos Program Coordinator (AC) performs a wide variety of health and safety related duties for the Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) Department . The AC communicates with the professional staff (Ph.D., MD, Senior Researchers, Lab Technicians), clerical staff (secretaries and clerks), physical plant staff (tradespersons, cleaners, shop personnel, etc.), graduate and undergraduate students, most university departments, regulators and outside vendors. Thus, the AC must communicate well with individuals and be able to independently recognize and evaluate potentially unsafe conditions, and act accordingly to correct the situation. The AC reports directly to the Manager of Safety and Industrial Hygiene Programs. The work assignments are primarily based on maintaining compliance with applicable state and federal regulations. The AC must be familiar with all aspects of the health and safety programs. Key duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Coordination of campus asbestos and lead programs. Safety and Industrial Hygiene program support. Laboratory safety audits and inspections. Assist with training development and presentation. Provide emergency response – must be able to respond to emergencies outside of normal business hours.
