Environmental Protection Specialist III Performs advanced environmental and public health inspections and investigations under the Texas Asbestos Health Protection Act (TAHPA), Texas Asbestos Health Protection Rules (TAHPR), and the National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP). Conducts compliance and complaint investigations, writes reports related to compliance and enforcement of state and federal laws, rules and regulations using appropriate software. Responds to requests from the public for information and interpretation of applicable regulations. May also perform Lead inspections and investigations under the Texas Environmental Lead Reduction Rules (TELRR). Attends and testifies in administrative hearings when necessary. Attends emergency preparedness training classes including IS-100; IS-200; and IS-700 at the minimum in accordance with DSHS policy number OS-3003, dated June 3, 2009. Actively participates and/or serves in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations in response and/or recovery in Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Safe operation of either a state owned vehicle or personal vehicle is required to conduct state business and acceptable driving record must be maintained in accordance with DSHS Policy OS-3901, Fleet Operations and Management & Procedures and standards developed by the Texas Department of Public Safety. Works under very limited supervision and exercises considerable latitude for independent judgment.
