About The Position

The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking an Arts Program Coordinator to join our team! The YMCA focuses on empowering people in all forms, by improving health and well-being and inspiring action in and across our neighborhoods. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. As an Arts Program Coordinator you will provide leadership, instruction, and motivation for Arts program participants and staff. The Arts Coordinator provides leadership, instruction and motivation for arts program participants and staff. Provides a quality experience to students and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Requirements

  • You are committed to valuing and promoting diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • 10+ years of formal performing or visual arts training or comparable experience.
  • 5+ years of experience as a performing or visual arts teacher and/or teaching assistant.
  • Experience teaching beginning, intermediate and advanced level performing or visual arts classes. Multiple disciplines preferred.
  • Positive attitude and previous experience with varying ages and diverse populations.
  • Professional theatrical experience required.
  • Appreciation and passion for visual, culinary and performing arts.
  • Able and willing to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day, and other online and in-person training as required.
  • Must be able to pass Background and Reference checks (in accordance with the WA State Fair Chance Act).

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of safety procedures and equipment set-up (preferred).
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct leadership, instruction and motivation for program participants in Art programs.
  • Provide lesson planning, class proposals, material lists, attendance-keeping, day-to-day teaching and classroom management, and class schedules.
  • Must work well with individuals of all ages, be able to multitask, and communicate effectively with parents and children.
  • Teach dance classes, while observing and helping children to improve their technique in a fun and safe environment.
  • Assist in planning and implementation of summer arts programming.
  • Follow/Implement our Association Quality Standards and 9 Dimensions of Well Being into Youth Programming and Staff Development.
  • Assist in the production of department events, exhibitions, and recitals.
  • Maintain communication with members, dance company parents, and arts staff.
  • Effectively communicate program information and student progress as needed.
  • Attend branch and association arts staff trainings and meetings as required.
  • Instruct classes as scheduled, and provide substitute instruction as needed.
  • Lead dance and/or arts activities within the branch as assigned.
  • Provide administrative assistance to the Arts Director and to the Arts Department.
  • Update and prepare arts program schedules, marketing communication, and additional arts documents.
  • Manage class registration and program fees.
  • Assist in recruiting, training and mentoring volunteers and part-time staff in specified program areas.
  • Assist in supervision of performing and visual arts staff.
  • Effectively engage and lead volunteers, including Dance Teachers in Training, to provide quality programming for participants and positive volunteer experiences.
  • Meet performance measurement by telling the Y story and raising charitable dollars to fulfill our mission.
  • Assist staff leadership team in reaching campaign goals through recruiting campaigners, making personal asks and supporting branch events.
  • Staff will be responsible for frequent touchpoint cleaning and sanitizing in specific areas.
