About The Position

Join our community and experience Emerson College! The Department of Performing Arts invites applications for a one-year, full-time Artist-in-Residence faculty term position in On-Camera Acting and Scene Study for our BFA performance programs. The Department seeks candidates who can contribute to the excellence and diversity of the academic community through ongoing engagement with students both inside and outside of the classroom in addition to traditional teaching, and service. The appointment begins August 20, 2026 with a mandatory 2-day orientation August 20 & 21, 2026. The Department of Performing Arts is home to one of the nation’s leading undergraduate programs in theatrical performance, design, stage management, and theatre education with over 80 full- and part-time faculty members and staff and 525 students studying in nine distinct undergraduate and one graduate program. The department offers multiple BFA degrees and Emerson Stage, the production organization within the department, produces eight to ten fully staged major productions annually in five theatres. The graduate program offers an MA and MFA in Theatre Education and Applied Theatre.

Requirements

  • The ideal candidate will have an MFA degree in Acting or extensive professional credits, and experience teaching acting on the college level or in a professional studio setting.
  • We are seeking a candidate with professional acting credits that include both film/television and stage.
  • All applicants should have film and television credits listed on IMDB, and be a member of SAG/AFTRA.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching the following courses to our BFA Theatre and Performance and our BFA Acting students: On Camera Acting, Advanced On Camera Acting, and Scene Study
  • Other potential course assignments might include advanced acting classes based on the candidate's areas of expertise.
  • This position carries a 3/3 course load, teaching 6 classes over the academic year.
  • Additional responsibilities include mentoring students, assisting in the admissions audition process, advising on Emerson Stage, serving on department and college committees, and participating in the college’s system of shared governance.
