About The Position

We are looking to employ a compassionate and experienced art therapist to utilize art and psychotherapeutic techniques to help McKinney Vento (homeless) students improve their physical, cognitive, and emotional wellbeing. The art therapist’s responsibilities include evaluating students’ reactions and behaviors during art therapy sessions, and encouraging patients to reflect on the artwork produced during art therapy sessions. Hours of work are during the regular school day. 12-15 hours per month. As this is grant funded it is for the 25-26 school year only.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in art therapy or counseling
  • Appropriate state licensure, Registered Art Therapist (ATR) or Board Cert (ATR-BC)
  • Sound knowledge of visual art.
  • Excellent observational and counseling skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Patient, empathetic, and creative.

Responsibilities

  • Consulting with McKinney Vento students to identify the problems or conditions they wish to overcome.
  • Conducting art therapy sessions with McKinney Vento students using various types of visual arts.
  • Discussing artworks with them to evaluate the meaning and emotions behind the artworks.
  • Developing suitable art therapy programs for McKinney Vento students based on their needs, objectives, and preferred forms of artistic expression.
  • Teaching coping skills and strategies to enable them to deal with challenging and traumatic experiences.
