About The Position

This is a full-time position split between Art Therapist and Residential Therapist. This position shares co-responsibility for the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Art Therapy program at Denver Children’s Home. The other part-time aspect of this position includes providing therapy and case management for a caseload of youth in the Residential Program.

Requirements

  • Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Art Therapy (LPC and ATR eligible)
  • Experience working with children and adolescents who have suffered abuse, trauma, and/or neglect and who display conduct related problems
  • Knowledge of adolescent development, pathology, and rationale for therapeutic intervention.
  • Knowledge of counseling, assessment, and crisis intervention skills.
  • Knowledge of art therapy theory, assessments, and intervention skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external treatment teams
  • Requires continuous walking, standing, sitting, fine hand or finger movement, detailed sight and hearing.
  • Significant and frequent use of physical and sensory requirements associated with verbal and written communication, hearing acuity and visual acuity to observe and record client behaviors and activities.
  • Ability to do restrictive procedures in accordance with Denver Children’s Home Therapeutic Crisis Intervention guidelines.
  • Requires use of office equipment requiring repetitive wrist/hand movement and vision.
  • Ability to routinely perform light lifting of 1-20 lbs., with occasional moderate lifting of 21-60 lbs. and heavy lifting of more than 61 lbs.
  • Frequently pushes or pulls objects up to 60 lbs., with occasional pushing or pulling of objects over 61 lbs.
  • Frequent bending or stooping and reaching above shoulder level.
  • Requires climbing of stairs on a regular basis.
  • Occasional driving automatic equipment/vehicles.
  • May experience temperature fluctuations, from heat to cold due to environment changes of the Home and the need to work outdoors at times.
  • Free of dependency and abuse of illegal or illicit drugs, alcohol, inhalants, or other chemical substances or controlled substances.

Responsibilities

  • Provide weekly group art therapy
  • Providing weekly individual art therapy in adjunct to their primary therapeutic services
  • Document client experience and progress for each session
  • Submit monthly treatment reports
  • Collaborate and communicate with clinical treatment and education teams
  • Coordinate special art projects
  • Maintain the art therapy studio including all supplies
  • Providing individual and family therapy for clients on caseload
  • Providing case management and working with external teams and funding sources through monthly staffing meetings
