This role supports emotional expression, coping, and quality of life through creative engagement. The Art Therapist collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to align therapy interventions with the patients physical, emotional, and spiritual needs during end-of-life care.

Requirements

  • Masters degree in Art Therapy or related field from an accredited program required.
  • Registered Art Therapist (ATR) or Board Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC) preferred.
  • State licensure or credentialing as required for clinical practice in Indiana.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in art therapy; hospice, palliative care, or medical setting preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, observational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and adapt to a variety of care environments.
  • Valid drivers license, reliable transportation, and current auto insurance required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide art therapy sessions to hospice patients and families in home or facility settings, using creative modalities to promote comfort, expression, and healing.
  • Customize interventions based on patient goals, functional ability, and clinical status.
  • Support grief, loss, and life review through therapeutic art techniques.
  • Collaborate with the hospice interdisciplinary team to integrate art therapy into the overall plan of care.
  • Document therapy sessions and patient/family responses per agency and regulatory standards.
  • Educate families and caregivers about the purpose and benefits of art therapy.
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries, confidentiality, and adherence to HIPAA regulations.
  • Prepare, clean, and transport art supplies in accordance with infection control standards.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, staff in-services, and professional development.
  • Travel regularly to patient homes or care facilities across assigned geographic areas
