About The Position

Chaminade College Preparatory seeks a dynamic, innovative, and engaging ART TEACHER who has expertise in Traditional Art, Digital Art and Photography, with great classroom management skills for our high school campus (grades 9-12) in West Hills, California. This is a full-time position as a long term sub for starting January 5, 2026 through June 5, 2026. The compensation for the position is based upon experience and may range from $65,261 to $93,774. The Successful Candidate Will teach High School students a rigorous art curriculum that empowers them to shape their world artistically, communicate effectively, and become culturally and socially engaged citizens. Will create a learning environment that allows students to flourish artistically, build knowledge of key principles, develop students' fundamental art skills, including but not limited to drawing, coloring, and painting technique, as well as fundamentals of digital design and introduction to photography. Has proven experience of teaching contemporary skills that allow students to flourish in a diverse range of academic, professional, and cultural contexts. Provide consistent high-quality feedback to students that is consistent with articulated course standards while also creating a safe and supportive classroom environment that fosters learning and creativity. Knows how to apply the principles of backward design and implement lessons that enable all students to succeed and reach their full potential. Stays up-to-date with new art techniques, technologies, and trends to enhance teaching methods and student learning.

Requirements

  • Has a passion for teaching art at the secondary level and is skilled at working with high-school aged students.
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in the subject discipline is required.
  • Is comfortable delivering instruction on campus, via remote learning, and/or in a hybrid model.
  • Wants to work in a setting committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion of all school stakeholders.
  • Wants to work in a setting committed to balancing teaching/learning, health, and well-being of all stakeholders.
  • Participates in and attends campus life events, including supervision, lunch activities, liturgies, assemblies, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • A teaching credential and/or a Master's degree in the subject discipline is preferred.
  • Proficient in teaching applications in the Adobe Creative Suite (preferred).
  • Prior teaching experience, especially in a Catholic educational setting, is preferred; however, relevant experience in the field is also strongly considered.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches five high school art classes.
  • Collaborates with department members and course counterpart to design and teach a curriculum that builds students' toolkits of foundational principles and elements so that students can do the following: 1) create powerful work that is relevant to their identities and lived experiences, 2) appreciate art and artists, and 3) speak and think like artists able to critique their own and others' work.
  • Exposes students to a diverse range of art and artists that respect students' diverse social identities while still corresponding to Catholic Marianist values and the mission of the school.
  • Under the supervision of the vice principals, teaches a standards-based (California state and Archdiocesan) curriculum.
  • In a timely manner, plans lessons; provides feedback and grades on assignments; maintains grades, attendance, and other school records; and communicates with students, their families, and counselors when students need support.
  • Collaborates with department members and course counterpart(s) to evaluate, monitor, and update curriculum, assessment, and pacing guides under the guidance of the Department Chair.
  • Ensures that instructional strategies respect students' diverse social identities while still corresponding to Catholic Marianist values and the mission of the school.
  • Creates an emotionally and physically safe learning environment where students can see themselves as artists and feel safe to express who they are.
  • Integrates technology by using BlackBoard Learning Management System (LMS) (can provide training), EdTech Apps, such as Nearpod, Formative, AP Classroom, discipline-based learning technology tools, and other collaborative and productivity tools (Note: All students use a school-issued tablet daily)
  • Is knowledgeable about new trends and developments in arts based instructional strategies and assessment.
  • Participates in and attends campus life events, including supervision, lunch activities, liturgies, assemblies, etc.
