About The Position

The Armorer/Training Officer is primarily responsible for the delivery of curriculum using lesson plans to instruct personnel in specialized training relating to specific aspects of the NASA Protective Services/Security Training Program, in addition to providing duties of Armorer on site. This position ensures all training meets and is in compliance with Federal arrest authority and Federal Magistrate Program guidelines including but not limited to defensive tactics, federal, state, local, NASA policies, procedures, and regulations.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree preferably in a Law Enforcement/Security related field and five years of Security or Law Enforcement experience in the military or civilian police, three years of which must be in training.
  • Must have completed an Instructor Techniques Course or equivalent instructor training course approved by the NASA Office of Protective Services.
  • Complete a general instructor course and be certified by the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) or NASA determined equivalent.
  • Complete a NASA Protective Service Training Academy basic course of instruction.
  • Complete use of force, defensive tactics and/or firearms instructor certification course (as applicable) and be certified by FLETC, or NASA determined equivalent and maintain a current certificate for each instructor techniques courses.
  • Must be able to maintain and qualify periodically on a course of fire with handgun, or other special weapons.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license.
  • Must be able to obtain a DoD security clearance, but not required to start.
  • Must be able to meet drug testing and alcohol – free workforce requirements to include random drug and/or alcohol testing.
  • Must speak, read, write, and understand the English language, apply written rules, detailed orders, instructions, and training material.
  • Have no record or history of illegal drug use, sale, possession, or manufacture.
  • Have no felony convictions and no convictions that reflect on the individual’s reliability including those crimes classified under the Lautenburg Act.
  • Must be able to meet and maintain NASA Physical Certifications.
  • In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Required to follow all company personnel and safety policies, and perform all assigned duties in a safe work manner.
  • Deliver training classes or develop training plans for other security courses, as necessary, including the requirements to meet Federal arrest authority and Federal Magistrate Program, defensive tactics, the use of various forms of intermediate weapons, and other specialized equipment.
  • Provide CPR for First Responders training in accordance with the curriculum developed by the American Red Cross.
  • Prepares and executes training drills and scenarios designed to evaluate the effectiveness of security personnel and procedures.
  • Develops curriculum and lesson plans for the Security Training Program.
  • Must be able to provide support and assistance to NASA Protective Service Training Academy.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to include weekends and holidays if needed.
  • Must be able to travel, to provide instruction to other NASA Centers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
