About The Position

Responsible for the safety and security of all Jefferson employees, students, visitors, staff and property. As designated by the Shift Lieutenant, Security Police Sergeant patrols the Jefferson campus either on foot or on bicycle and monitors the work performance of shift security officers at various locations on campus. Regularly reviews with Lieutenant the performance of officers, and effectiveness of current assignment positions so as to provide maximum efficiency and utilization of resources. Must be available to work all shifts and must be able to rotate between shifts in accordance with organizational needs. The armed Sergeants will respond to all serious incidents on campus and take appropriate action in accordance with Federal, State, Local and Organizational laws, and policy. •Interacts with local police, District Attorney, or other law enforcement agencies relative to criminal offenses and complaints, and when subpoenaed testifies in court litigation proceedings. •Consults and advises crime victims focusing on "due process" or methods of reporting crimes to the appropriate authorities (police, District Attorney, etc.) and/or to initiate arrest warrants, as necessary. •Assigned to security details, VIP protection and crowd control for special events, and on-campus escorts. •Interacts with law enforcement authorities for special events. •Provides assistance as a member of the Emergency Response Team in events such as: fires, bomb threats, explosions, or other life threatening or crime related situations. •Directly supervises a zone of Security Officers. Ensures that Security Officers are “on post” and are meeting both job description and post requirements. Always acts as the “charge officer” at any location and reports problematic situations to the shift Lieutenant. Has the principal responsibility to provide a formal method of communicating conduct problems to management consistent with established rules of conduct. •Reviews security incident reports. Ensures that officers prepare a security incident report for all security complaints and incidents, and that the written record is submitted before the end of the shift. Reviews all incident reports prepared by officers on shift for completeness and accuracy. Returns any report to the officer that is not consistent with general reporting standards. •Patrols Jefferson Buildings and campus areas. Makes unscheduled checks of campus sensitive and high-risk areas. Periodically checks specific campus locations for security violations, unauthorized persons and dangerous conditions. Reports any security concerns from respected shift in writing to the Lieutenant. •Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the iSCORE values of Jefferson. •Responds to calls for service, take command, document all security incidents with a written report. •Assist all victims of crime on Jefferson campus. •Ensure all visitors comply with visiting regulations and escort all unauthorized people from campus. •Perform all duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School / GED required
  • Act 235F certification required.
  • Able to meet the requirements of Act 501 and to pass Physical Fitness, Psychological, and Drug testing examinations established by Jefferson for this position.
  • Prior law enforcement/military experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • No discipline on file for six months prior to application filing.
  • Must be available to work all shifts and must be able to rotate between shifts in accordance with organizational needs.

  • Associate’s degree in criminal justice or related field preferred
