About The Position

SUMMARY The Brentwood campus, Armed Security Officer is responsible to the church, under the direction of Connection Minister and Security Director for on-campus support to the maintenance of security at Brentwood Baptist Church, its regional campuses and all participants therein. This person would carry out directives and goals assigned by the security director to accomplish the security philosophies and methodologies established by Brentwood Baptist Church, as well as reviewing and offering recommendation toward the improvement of existing security technologies and strategies. PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES may include but are not limited to the following: Works in collaboration with other Brentwood Campus Security Officers Routinely patrol campus and grounds. Examine doors, windows, stairwells, and docks to determine that they are secure. Serve as a general security presence and visible deterrent to crime and rule infractions. May be required to expel persons involved in misconduct or exercise force up to and including deadly force. Watch for and report irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes or any conditions that may endanger person(s) on church property. Regularly monitor campus security cameras for suspicious or hazardous activities. May be required to assist with injured individuals, call for fire, paramedic or police services. Must know the laws and church rules and regulations as they pertain to safety and security services. Must be capable of clear and concise communication (verbal and written) for reporting incidents that have a bearing on the church or anything that could lead to legal actions, such as arrests, lawsuits, or violent actions by persons on the church property. May be required to regulate vehicular and/or pedestrian traffic for the purpose of maintaining a safe and pleasant environment on the church property. Report building maintenance, custodial, or grounds problems to Maintenance Director. Perform duties and responsibilities in a manner to Glorify Christ and further the mission and ministry purposes of Brentwood Baptist Church. Adhere to church approved guidelines as set forth in Brentwood Baptist Church’s Bylaws and Policies and Procedures. Receive mail and clear outside mailbox before leaving daily. Other Safety and Security duties as assigned by the Director of Security. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands and fingers, to handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift approximately 40 pounds and climb 12 flights of stairs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Must meet drug testing and alcohol – free workforce requirements, to include random drug and/or alcohol testing. This position requires psychological testing. This position does not act in the capacity of a law enforcement officer and has no arrest or apprehension powers. QUALIFICATIONS : Must be 21+, U.S. Citizen, Have a valid TN Driver’s License, Prior Law Enforcement/Equivalent Military Experience preferred, with separation from that employment being under good terms/Honorable conditions, Good Moral Character, Must be able to pass Background Check/Investigation, (No disqualifying criminal history, no mental incompetence rulings, no substance addiction.) Selection process will include multiple interviews, background investigation/Criminal History Check. Must currently possess or be able to acquire a valid TN Armed Guard Licensure from the TN Department of Commerce and Insurance as an Armed Security Guard, as well as the additional Active Shooter Training Required by TN State Law. (Per State of TN, You must first qualify as a standard armed guard and then complete the separate 8-hour active shooter training before you can legally carry in a school environment.) Church will re-imburse for initial Armed Guard Certification/Licensure, Active Shooter Certification, and subsequent recertification class costs. Church will provide Uniform Shirts with Church Logo. Applicant will provide their own handgun, ammunition, and other required clothing and equipment (ie. Tactical pants, boots, handcuffs, duty belt, holster, Bullet proof vest, etc.) EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE : High School Diploma or GED Have 3 years armed security officer experience (military or law enforcement may be substituted) Tactical training and certification as required by the State of Tennessee All campuses function under the governance of Brentwood Baptist Church. Each campus is an established entity operating as a whole and permanent part of the Brentwood Baptist.
