About The Position

Neurotech Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is a private biotech company located in Cumberland, RI and Needham, MA, within the realm of Greater Boston’s vast biotechnology landscape. Since our inception more than 20 years ago, our focus has been on developing and commercializing transformative therapies for chronic eye diseases. The core platform technology, Encapsulated Cell Therapy (ECT), is a first-in-class drug delivery platform designed to slow the progression of chronic eye diseases. Neurotech’s first commercial product, ENCELTOTM (revakinagene taroretcel-lwey), is approved in the United States for the treatment of adults with idiopathic Macular Telangiectasia Type 2 (MacTel). Encapsulated cell-based gene therapy is designed to provide long-term, sustained delivery of therapeutic proteins for the treatment of chronic eye diseases. Neurotech is seeking two Area Sales Directors (East and West) who thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and are energized by building, leading, and scaling a high-impact commercial organization. The Area Sales Director (one for the Eastern U.S. and one for the Western U.S.) is a first-line field leader responsible for building and leading regional commercial execution during an early and critical phase of Neurotech’s growth. This role will directly manage Key Account Managers and Surgical Application Specialists, driving adoption of a surgically implanted cell-based gene therapy, with retina specialists, ambulatory surgery centers, and ophthalmology academic institutions. This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role requiring deep experience in retina, ophthalmology surgery, and buy-and-bill commercialization, along with the agility and ownership mindset required in a biotech startup. Requirements

  • BACHELOR’S DEGREE REQUIRED; ADVANCED DEGREE PREFERRED.
  • 8+ YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN BIOTECH, PHARMACEUTICAL, OR SPECIALTY SALES.
  • 3+ YEARS OF DIRECT PEOPLE LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE.
  • PROVEN SUCCESS LEADING SPECIALTY OR COMPLEX THERAPIES IN A FIELD-BASED ROLE.
  • WILLINGNESS TO TRAVEL EXTENSIVELY WITHIN THE REGION.
  • STRONG UNDERSTANDING OF BUY-AND-BILL AND SPECIALTY PHARMACY PROCUREMENT PATHWAYS
  • EXPERIENCE WITH RARE DISEASE, GENE THERAPY, CELL THERAPY, OR EARLY-STAGE PRODUCT LAUNCHES.
  • COMFORT OPERATING IN AMBIGUITY AND BUILDING PROCESSES IN REAL TIME.

Responsibilities

  • Build & Lead a High-Impact Team
  • Recruit, lead, and develop a best-in-class team of Key Account Managers and Surgical Application Specialists.
  • Provide frequent, in-the-field coaching with a strong focus on skill development, clinical credibility, and account ownership.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, curiosity, collaboration, and patient-centric decision making.
  • Serve as a player-coach when needed, especially in complex or early adopter accounts.
  • Drive Launch & Growth in a Rare Disease Retina Market
  • Lead strategy and execution for an orphan-classified retinal disease, where depth of engagement matters more than reach.
  • Translate evolving national strategy into agile, local execution plans.
  • Drive identification, activation, and expansion of academic institutions and key surgical sites.
  • Partner with retina surgeons, group practices, administrators, and integrated care teams to build long-term adoption.
  • Surgical & Clinical Excellence
  • Oversee and support execution of a surgically implanted, cell-based gene therapy.
  • Work closely with Surgical Application Specialists to ensure excellence in procedural support, training, and case execution.
  • Be comfortable in the OR and surgical planning discussions, supporting physicians through early experience and adoption.
  • Reimbursement & Practice Economics
  • Lead teams through complex buy-and-bill dynamics
  • Collaborate closely with Field Reimbursement, Market Access and Patient Services partners to optimize effectiveness and workflow
  • Cross-Functional Partnering
  • Act as the voice of the field, providing real-time feedback to Commercial, Medical Affairs, Market Access, and Trade/Distribution
  • Ensure compliance while maintaining speed, flexibility, and entrepreneurial execution
