The Area Manager will oversee the operations, maintenance, safety, regulatory compliance, and financial performance of natural gas transmission and distribution assets within an assigned geographical area. This role is critical to ensuring reliable, safe, and efficient delivery of natural gas to customers while maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s degree preferred). In lieu of degree, direct operations experience with a proven track record of increasing responsibility may be substituted.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in natural gas operations, pipeline management, or energy utility industry.
  • 3+ years of prior supervisory or management experience strongly preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.
  • In-depth understanding of natural gas transmission/distribution systems and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficiency with operational software, GIS systems, SCADA, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations outside of normal working hours.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the operation, maintenance, and repair of transmission pipelines, distribution systems, regulator stations, and related facilities.
  • Ensure reliable gas flow and pressure management to meet system demands and customer needs.
  • Oversee the scheduling and execution of preventive and corrective maintenance programs.
  • Collaborate to plan capital improvement and system upgrade projects.
  • Enforce strict adherence to all safety protocols, industry standards, and government regulations (e.g. PHMSA, DOT, OSHA, EPA, state public utility commissions).
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
  • Champion a strong safety culture throughout the area of responsibility.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop field supervisors, technicians, and administrative staff.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and manage workforce planning and development.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Prepare and manage O&M (operations and maintenance) and capital budgets for the assigned area.
  • Monitor expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Provide financial reports and forecasts to management.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies, emergency responders, contractors, and key customers.
  • Coordinate with public affairs and regulatory teams to address community concerns and public outreach efforts.
