About The Position

We have an internship opening for an undergraduate student who is majoring in architecture or engineering (civil, structural, electrical, or mechanical). This internship is designed to provide valuable professional experience while contributing to impactful, real-world projects. Interns will work closely with architects and engineers on capital infrastructure projects within LLNL’s Project Management Office and the Operations & Business Principal Directorate. You will: Work with a mentor (i.e., architecture or engineering discipline leads, etc.). Participate in work related to the business of the Project Management Office which may include facility design and engineering under close supervision. Perform tasks in the areas of design and engineering for the creation of construction documentation for site modification projects. Present a poster or seminar on the assignment. Prepare end-of-assignment technical report. Meet project milestones or deadlines. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). See Additional Information section below for details.
  • Must be an undergraduate student in good standing at an accredited institution pursuing a degree in architecture or engineering (civil, structural, mechanical, or electrical), with an emphasis on capital or infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to apply basic principles of architecture or engineering to solve problems.
  • Experience with Revit or AutoCAD
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to present and communicate concepts and ideas.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with personal computers and associated word processing and spreadsheet software, e.g., Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as the ability to learn new software.
  • Eagerness to contribute to a team-oriented environment using excellent interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of Architecture/Engineering industry and preparing construction documents
  • Current GPA of 3.0 or greater.
  • In third year or later of an undergraduate program.
