About The Position

Weather Shield, now a part of the Pella Family of Brands, is seeking a Product Application Specialist Drafter. This role develops Weather Shield product installation shop drawings/designs, preliminary installation drawings, take-off/Estimating & Quoting and/or custom product design drawings to support customer needs under the supervision of a Sr. Product Application technician and/or Product Application Engineer. Will review drawings and/or quote to ensure accuracy. This is a full-time onsite position that reports to the Medford, WI office. Hybrid work schedules can be evaluated pending managers approval.

Requirements

  • Architectural Technologies, drafting or computer graphics Associates (A.A.) degree from an accredited 2-year college or technical training institute or equivalent experience.
  • Preferably will have full understanding of CAD software/hardware functions, organization of CAD files, and be proficient in the operation of AutoCAD.
  • Preferably will have training in construction practices or equivalent experience.
  • Two years of AutoCAD experience required.
  • Four additional years in an architectural office will be acceptable substitute for a degree from a training institute.
  • One year experience in construction related field.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Word, Excel, Power Point, and AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

  • Weather Shield Product Installation Shop Drawing and Design Development - Responsible for developing Weather Shield product installation shop drawings/designs for specific large/complex projects to support customer needs under the supervision of a Sr. Product Application Technician and/or Product Application Engineer. Communicates any outstanding issues or deviations in writing to sales branch or National Accounts representative as required. Will review drawings to ensure accuracy.
  • Custom product drawings/designs - Responsible for developing custom product window and door elevations to meet customer needs and within the custom product manufacturing constraints. Must be creative in solutions that meet all project criteria including product performance and manufacturing limitations. Coordinate with Custom Solutions team as needed to keep workflow moving through the Pella Approval Process.
  • Preliminary Installation Design Drawings - Responsible for developing Weather Shield preliminary installation design drawings for specific large/complex projects to support customer needs under the supervision of a Sr. Product Application technician and/or Product Application Engineer. Will review drawings to ensure accuracy.
  • Take-off/Estimating & Quoting – Responsible for reviewing plans and specifications and accurately determining window and door quantities and attributes. Analyzes architectural plans and specifications to determine the appropriate installation method and accessories with assistance from Sr. Product Application Technician and/or Product Application Engineer.
  • Order Support - Support sales order entry with dimensional calculations for special size/shape products.
  • Documentation - Maintain required documentation of all projects and drawings generated. Ensure that proper back-up procedures are carried out to reduce potential lost data. Organize and maintain all drawing files generated.
  • Quality Control - Responsible for ensuring that all drawings meet the architectural graphics standards as well as graphics standards established for Weather Shield. Monitor quality, accuracy and consistency of drawings, details and graphics. Check drawings, details and graphics developed by other drafters, ensuring accuracy and maintaining the highest level of quality. Assist in ensuring that the most efficient methods are being used to create details and drawings. Assist in development of standards that will ensure drawing quality and accuracy.
  • Productivity - Responsible for ensuring that scheduled completion dates and productivity goals are met.
