About The Position

RECENT COLLEGE GRADUATE (NON-LICENSED) (0–3 years’ experience) Non-licensed architectural staff. Professional degree in Architecture. Fulltime, entry-level professional performing basic architectural assignments. Undertakes a variety of assignments requiring the application of standard architectural techniques for small projects or selected segments of a larger project. Performs design layouts and features, which require researching, compiling, and recording information for assigned project work.

  • Performs design layouts and features, which require researching, compiling, and recording information for assigned project work.

Responsibilities

  • Develops an understanding of conceptual, schematic, design development construction documentation and construction administration phases on assigned projects.
  • Maintains and initiates frequent communication with JCJ team members to sustain proper information flow.
  • Fully participates in designated project meetings, both virtual and in-person.
  • Develops proficiency at written communication in email and virtual communication via JCJ virtual meeting software.
  • Prepares meeting notes using standard JCJ formats under supervision of Project team leadership. May perform checking of junior staff level work, when requested.
  • Adheres to established project schedules.
  • Adheres to JCJ established conventions for digital file keeping.
  • Coordinates work with internal JCJ project team and sub-consultants.
  • Develops the ability to present to clients both physically and virtually.
  • Develops knowledge of time management skills required to work on multiple projects of all sizes.
  • Develops creativity in design and the ability to adapt design solutions to a variety of building types.
  • Learns and embraces the architectural design approach as established by the Project Leadership and demonstrates the ability to integrate interior design with architecture to create a unified statement.
  • Implements design direction that is cognizant of construction methods and coordination with engineering disciplines.
  • Develops a working knowledge of the conventions of space planning; including proper/legal clearances, awareness of human scale and ergonomics, functional organization and three-dimensional implications of planning.
  • Assists with development of design solutions. Selects and presents multiple schemes to internal and client team. Demonstrates a working knowledge of the application of function, price points, lead times and durability of products and systems being recommended for use within projects.
  • Develops facile computer aided visualization skills via multiple software applications to support development and presentation of design concepts. Share knowledge of these applications with team members.
  • Researches manufacturers and selects appropriate construction materials, systems, and assemblies from viewpoint of function, client preference, aesthetics and cost; coordinates with team members, and incorporates accurate information into drawings. On certain projects, delegates the task of selections to junior staff.
  • Supports business development activities by creating presentation collateral including digital or physical finish boards, visual slide-deck presentations. This may require coordination with JCJ’s business development and marketing teams
  • Learns to produce building project documentation from concept through construction documents. Obtains and assembles data to complete drawings. E.g. Learns to develop schedules and details for partition types and doors.
  • Learns to create detail drawings for floor, wall and roof assemblies. Develops awareness and application of industry construction best practices. Remains current with JCJ Technical Bulletins.
  • Learns to produce construction documents under the direction of the Project Architect, utilizing architectural graphic conventions of line weight, scale and sheet organization.
  • Adheres to JCJ conventions for Revit/AutoCAD standards, file and drawing organization.
  • Participates in designated site observation, including photographic and dimensional notes to document existing conditions; coordinates with Project Team.
  • Acquires knowledge about Building, ADA and Life/Fire safety codes, their industry wide applications and impact upon space planning. Learns how to interpret applicable local, federal and state accessibility, building and fire codes.
  • Acquires knowledge about Code Survey and Code Drawings for project.
  • Learns about local zoning review and approval process to assists the PM as required.
  • Actively maintains resource materials and data base in physical and digital libraries.
  • Builds knowledge of Materials, Systems and Equipment costs.
  • Learns to understand the manufacturers’ specifications and the creation of the Project Specifications.
  • Learns how to accurately perform numeric tasks such as square footage calculations, device counts, and material quantity take offs for budgeting purposes.
  • Participates in value engineering exercises.
  • Learns and assists in answering RFI’s, under direction of Project team.
  • Using JCJ software, assists with review of shop drawings and submittals. Learns to effectively file reviewed materials.
  • Assume special projects and duties as assigned or requested.
