About The Position

The Architect is a key member of BLDD Architects’ Design team and is the engine of our practice. They will collaborate and work with the best design talent in the Midwest to create and innovate for some of the country's finest school districts, colleges, religious institutions, and senior living experts. Our architects are challenged to solve design and functional problems from day one and are encouraged to apply their talents and passions to meet the needs of our teams, and the clients we serve. Reporting to a Principal of the firm, the Architect will be teamed with other design professionals, firm leaders, and consultants on project teams in the delivery of exceptional architecture and a world class client experience. BLDD has a unique voice and approach in a field that is hard to differentiate, and our Design team enriches and expresses our voice, on behalf of our clients, to delight and inspire those that share in our built environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • 5-12 years of experience
  • Day Travel within the regional Midwest - up to 10%.
  • Valid State Driver’s License required.
  • Architectural license required, preferably in the State of IL and/or MO
  • Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong work ethic, energetic, optimistic, and positive attitude.
  • Attention to detail, with great organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Sheets & Docs, Adobe Acrobat and Bluebeam required.
  • Strong expertise in Revit, Lumion, Sketchup and other modeling software required.
  • Willingness to learn and desire to contribute to the team’s success.
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Work is of a creative nature, requiring independent judgment and discretion, and is intellectual and varied to where the output cannot be standardized with regard to time.

  • Master’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with other architects, engineers, interior and graphic designers, and builders to further understand how the space should function and appear.
  • Prepares sketches and/or other visual aids to showcase preliminary designs, drawings and reports, utilizing design applications.
  • Modifies plans as required.
  • Maintains current knowledge of trends and materials, techniques, and other innovative developments in design.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with clients, networking groups, professional organizations, and the local community to promote brand awareness.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as requested or required.
  • Plans, designs, and facilitates the execution of elements for new building designs and/or building expansions, or renovations designs.
  • Demonstrates strong technical understanding and provides guidance to Architect 1.
  • Collaborates with internal team members to select and determine materials and provides recommendations to Architect 3.
  • Creates detailed plans integrating engineering, electrical, and HVAC considerations; presents plans to Architect 3 for review and approval.
  • Visits the project site to monitor progress and ensure client satisfaction, resolving any complaints or concerns.
  • Coordinates with clients regarding designs and specifications, collaborating with the Sr. Architect on estimated costs and proposed construction schedule.
  • Orders or obtains necessary materials, adhering to project and budget specifications.
  • Identifies, through consultation, client’s preferences to define their priorities and visions in terms of needs vs. desires.
  • Prepares scale drawings and contract requirements and submits for bids.
  • Collaborate with clients to select and award contracts.
  • Determines timelines and project costs and presents accurate estimates to clients and BLDD design leaders.
  • Manages Design team members, providing guidance and direction throughout all phases of the project life cycle; oversees the installation of materials and other design elements.
