About The Position

JCJ Architecture is seeking an Architect III to support the development of design and documentation. This individual will assume individual responsibility for producing portions of design and documentation and may direct junior staff in those assigned areas. The role requires 8 or more years of experience and certification as a licensed professional. The Architect III participates in conceptual design and provides full support throughout the entire project lifecycle. They serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on specialized systems, liaise with Project Management, other Architects, and consultants, and develop and represent the lead technical viewpoint on projects. Coordination with the Director and Department Head on appropriate technical solutions and product strategies is also a key aspect, with project size differentiating this position from a senior level role. The firm emphasizes a collaborative design process, balancing client goals, functional objectives, and physical context to create environments that strengthen communities, businesses, and institutions.

Requirements

8+ years’ experience in architectural practice or related position.
Certification as licensed professional.
Professional BArch or master’s in architecture.
6+ years creating design solutions.
Advanced Computer and Information Management Skills.
Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD current versions.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite – Excel, Word, MS Project.
3D Rendering capability.
Working knowledge of conceptual, schematic, design development construction documentation and construction administration phases.
Ability to convey information to other internal and external consultant team members.
Ability to maintain and initiate frequent communication with JCJ team members.
Ability to fully participate in designated project meetings, both virtual and in-person.
Ability to lead certain meetings, especially those that focus on coordination with the consultant and internal team.
Proficiency at written communication in email and virtual communication via JCJ virtual meeting software.
Ability to prepare meeting notes using standard JCJ formats.
Vigilance about self-checking work and conveying questions or concerns to Project team leadership.
Ability to participate in the formulation of work and scheduling strategies with JCJ team and adhere to established project schedules.
Adherence to JCJ established conventions for digital file keeping.
Ability to coordinate work with internal JCJ project team and sub-consultants.
Ability to participate in the preparation and delivery of presentations to clients both physically and virtually.
Ability to assume leadership of selected portions of presentations.
Ability to refine a portfolio in one market sector.
Thorough knowledge of time management skills required to work on multiple projects of all sizes.
Creativity in design and the ability to adapt design solutions to a variety of building types.

Working knowledge of the application of function, price points, lead times and durability of products and systems being recommended for use within projects.
Facile computer aided visualization skills via multiple software applications to support development and presentation of design concepts.
Ability to share knowledge of these applications with team members.
Ability to research manufacturers and select appropriate construction materials, systems, and assemblies from viewpoint of function, client preference, aesthetics and cost.
Ability to coordinate with team members, and incorporate accurate information into drawings.
Ability to produce building project documentation from concept through construction documents.
Ability to obtain and assemble data to complete drawings.
Ability to create schedules and details for partition types and doors.
Ability to create detail drawings for floor, wall and roof assemblies.
Awareness and application of industry construction best practices.
Ability to remain current with JCJ Technical Bulletins.
Ability to produce construction documents under the direction of the Project Architect, utilizing architectural graphic conventions of line weight, scale and sheet organization.
Adherence to JCJ conventions for Revit/AutoCAD standards, file and drawing organization.
Ability to perform site observation, including photographic and dimensional notes to document existing conditions.
Ability to accurately perform numeric tasks such as square footage calculations, device counts, and material quantity take offs for budgeting purposes.
Ability to assemble collected information into budget formats that allow for assigning costs.
Knowledge about Building, ADA and Life/Fire safety codes, their industry wide applications and impact upon space planning.
Ability to interpret applicable local, federal and state accessibility, building and fire codes.
Ability to prepare Code Survey and Code Drawings for project.
Ability to notify team members of possible conflicts between design and code.
Understanding of local zoning review and approval process to assist the PM in all necessary work for compliance.
Ability to actively maintain resource materials and data base in physical and digital libraries.
In-depth knowledge of Materials, Systems and Equipment costs.
Complete understanding of manufacturers’ specifications and the creation of the Project Specifications.
Ability to contribute information for input into Project Specifications.
Ability to make financial recommendations to clients.
Ability to implement cost management strategies in collaboration with Project Leadership.
Ability to actively participate in value engineering exercises, both to suggest alternatives and to incorporate accepted changes.
Ability to answer RFI’s and coordinate responses with project team.
Ability to review shop drawings and submittals using JCJ software.
Ability to effectively file reviewed materials.
Ability to coordinate with construction manager/contractor/procurement client team.
Ability to attend regular construction phase meetings.
Ability to coordinate with JCJ internal CA team and processes.
