About The Position

Performs advanced architectural work. Work involves coordinating the planning, design, and execution of construction and architectural projects. Works under minimal supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Architectural Engineering from an architectural education program accredited by the National Architectural Accreditation Board (N.A.A.B.) from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE).
  • Six years full-time, wage-earning architecture or architectural engineering experience in a facilities management environment to include two years roof analysis, design, or inspection.
  • Master’s degree in Architecture or Architectural Engineering from an architectural education program accredited by the National Architectural Accreditation Board (N.A.A.B.) from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the CHEA or USDE.
  • Five years full-time, wage-earning architecture or architectural engineering experience in a facilities management environment to include one year roof analysis, design, or inspection.
  • Currently registered as an Architect by the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners or, if currently or previously registered as an Architect in another state, must obtain Texas Board of Architectural Examiners Architect registration within one year from date of employment.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Certified Texas Contract Manager (CTCM) certification within twelve months from the date of employment.
  • Must maintain valid license(s) and Certified Texas Contract Manager (CTCM) certification for continued employment in position.
  • Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure as it is defined by state law.
  • Knowledge of architectural principles, techniques, and procedures.
  • Skill in the application of architectural concepts.
  • Skill in computer-aided drafting.
  • Skill to direct, plan, and coordinate projects.
  • Skill to review and apply policies, procedures, rules, regulations, schedules, guidelines, and contract requirements.
  • Skill to conduct inspections.
  • Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.
  • Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
  • Skill in problem-solving techniques.
  • Skill to review technical data and prepare technical reports.
  • Skill to plan work in order to meet established guidelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, rules, statutes, and codes pertaining to design and construction of government facilities preferred.
  • Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Directs, plans, and coordinates roofing projects
  • Oversees and conducts inspections of facilities for needed improvements
  • Oversees and conducts inspections and evaluates data for compliance with laws and specifications
  • Conducts special studies, reduces facts to specific findings, and recommends solutions.
  • Collects technical data, analyzes findings, and recommends specific programs or projects to include roofing projects
  • Oversees, designs, and plans layout of new and renovation projects including preparing drawings and specification documents
  • Prepares estimates of proposed construction costs and construction time.
  • Oversees the maintenance and preparation of records and reports.
  • Reviews and coordinates activities of consultants, construction firms, and governmental representatives
  • Provides architectural consultation services
  • Monitors design and construction of specific projects through completion.
  • Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
