Learn more about Accenture's Utilities Transmission & Distribution Practice here>> http://www.accenture.com/us-en/industries/utilities/transmission-distribution Role Overview The ArcGIS Utility Network Principal Director will serve as the executive functional and technology authority guiding utility clients through the transformation of legacy, geometric network–based GIS environments to the ArcGIS Utility Network platform, applying industry-leading practices and proven implementation patterns. This role is responsible for defining the enterprise GIS vision and target Utility Network architecture, enabling the transition from traditional database-centric GIS environments to modern, service-oriented, web-GIS platforms that support grid modernization, digital operations, and enterprise integration. The Principal Director will provide strategic leadership across business processes, operational workflows, applications, platform services, and enterprise integrations, ensuring GIS capabilities align with broader utility business objectives and enterprise architecture standards. Working closely with executive stakeholders across engineering, operations, and IT, this leader will help shape multi-year modernization roadmaps while guiding delivery teams through complex transformation programs that advance utility operational performance and technology innovation.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in utility GIS solution architecture and enterprise platform implementations.
  • Multiple full lifecycle ArcGIS Utility Network or comparable utility GIS transformation programs.
  • Hybrid background spanning utility operations, enterprise GIS architecture, and large-scale system integration.
  • Demonstrated experience advising senior utility leadership and enterprise architecture teams on GIS modernization strategies
  • Must be eligible to work for any US employer, without sponsorship
  • Willingness to travel for client work as needed
  • Deep expertise in electric and gas distribution utility operations, including engineering, grid operations, and asset management workflows.
  • Strong understanding of ArcGIS Utility Network functional architecture, including: Network topology and rules Asset and device modeling Structural vs functional networks Advanced network tracing
  • Extensive experience guiding organizations through process and change impacts associated with adopting ArcGIS Utility Network and ArcGIS Pro editing environments.
  • Strong background with the Esri platform, including: ArcGIS Utility Network ArcGIS Enterprise ArcGIS Pro Web GIS and service-based architecture patterns
  • Demonstrated success migrating utilities from legacy database-centric GIS architectures to modern service-oriented, API-driven platforms.
  • Experience integrating GIS with enterprise systems supporting asset management, grid operations, and field workforce management.
  • Ability to architect secure, scalable, and future-ready GIS platforms aligned with enterprise technology standards.

Responsibilities

  • Executive Advisory & Industry Leadership Serve as a trusted advisor to utility executives and enterprise architecture leaders, guiding GIS modernization strategies aligned with grid digitization, asset optimization, and operational transformation initiatives.
  • Define enterprise GIS vision and modernization roadmaps centered around ArcGIS Utility Network and service-oriented Web GIS platforms.
  • Advise clients on the strategic transition from database-centric GIS architectures to modern API-driven, service-based platforms that support enterprise utility operations.
  • Lead executive workshops, architecture reviews, and strategic planning sessions with utility leadership teams.
  • Provide industry perspective on GIS’s role in supporting modern grid operations, distributed energy integration, asset management, and field workforce enablement.
  • Solution Architecture & Transformation Leadership Serve as the lead enterprise solution architect for ArcGIS Utility Network transformations across large utility environments.
  • Define target GIS operating models, governance frameworks, and architectural standards to support enterprise-wide adoption.
  • Guide the migration from legacy network models (ArcGIS Geometric Network or custom implementations) to ArcGIS Utility Network using industry best practices.
  • Translate complex electric and gas utility business requirements into scalable GIS architectures, service models, and enterprise integration patterns.
  • Ensure GIS capabilities support end-to-end utility workflows, including planning, design, construction, field operations, outage response, asset lifecycle management, and grid operations.
  • Provide oversight to large delivery teams, ensuring solution quality, architectural integrity, and alignment with enterprise IT standards.
