About The Position

The City of Laramie Parks & Recreation Department is seeking a skilled and motivated Aquatics Supervisor to lead our energetic aquatics team and oversee daily operations at the Laramie Community Recreation Center's premier aquatic facilities. This full-time position plays a key leadership role in supporting our mission to provide a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all community members. From program development to staff training and facility oversight, the Aquatics Supervisor is central to shaping outstanding aquatic experiences in Laramie. Why Laramie? Requirements

  • Four (4) years of experience in aquatics program management, pool maintenance, administration experience, and staff supervision
  • Two (2) years of direct supervisory experience
  • Bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education, business, or a related field (or equivalent combination of experience and training)
  • Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in computer systems including recreation software, Excel, and digital communication platforms such as social media and email marketing.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI)/ Instructor Trainer (LGIT)
  • Water Safety Instructor (WSI) / Instructor Trainer (WSIT)
  • CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
  • First Aid
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO)
  • Valid driver's license

Responsibilities

  • Develop, coordinate, and evaluate all aquatics programming including open swim, swim lessons, fitness classes, rentals, and special events
  • Recruit, hire, supervise, and train approximately 45 part-time aquatics staff
  • Oversee certification and re-certification for Lifeguards, Water Safety Instructors, CPR/First Aid Instructors, and volunteers
  • Monitor staff performance, support professional development, and implement disciplinary actions as needed
  • Lead in-service trainings and promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement
  • Ensure daily operations meet local, state, and federal safety and sanitation requirements
  • Supervise pool systems including water chemistry, filtration, heating, and general maintenance
  • Develop and manage aquatics budgets, track expenditures, and prepare program/staffing plans
  • Assume responsibility for a participative record-keeping system for statistical data and report generation; prepare various reports on operations and activities.
  • Collaborate with the Recreation team to develop marketing materials, social media content, and promotional campaigns that increase participation and visibility of aquatic programs.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports including scheduling, participation data, certifications, facility checklists, training documentation, and incident documentation
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, adaptability, creative problem-solving, and empathy when responding to evolving situations and community needs
  • Respond to patron inquiries and resolve concerns in a courteous, timely manner
  • Represent the City professionally in public meetings, trainings, and collaborative projects
  • Evaluate challenges, explore alternative solutions, anticipate potential outcomes, and implement strategies that support department goals.
