About The Position

Lifeguards: Be identifiable with a lifeguard shirt, whistle, swimsuit, hip pack and rescue tube. Enforce all pool rules and proactively address members to maintain a safe environment. Must be skilled in observing large groups of swimmers and be ready at all times to prevent serious injuries. Review all emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately in accordance with the emergency action plan (EAP) and provide first aid when needed. Complete incident reports as required and contact the Aquatics Leadership Team. Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff. Check the pool and deck for hazardous conditions when arriving and throughout the shift. Performs chemical testing every two hours during lifeguarding shift. Notifies supervisor of any issues. Swim Instructors: Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with Lakeland Hills YMCA guidelines. Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents/guardians. Maintains effective, positive relations with the members, participants and other staff. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary and notifies the Aquatic Leadership Team. Organizes and puts away needed class equipment and reports damaged equipment to the supervisor. Provides leadership training and supervision to class aides as assigned. Responsible for teaching YMCA swim lesson program classes for up to 8 children. Instructors must teach in the water for every class. Must be qualified and able to teach freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, elements of butterfly and elementary backstroke.

Requirements

  • At least 15 years of age.
  • Certifications: current YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent.
  • Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness
  • Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards
  • AED, CPR, First Aid certified
  • Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • Must be a strong, competent swimmer, and be able to demonstrate freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly.
  • Must be able to maintain a positive attitude towards students and staff.
