We are currently seeking a (Remote) Part-Time On-Call–Aquatics Examiner Minimum availability requirements for the Aquatics Examiner position are 3 consecutive days per week from May-August. The ideal candidate will reside in or near Los Angeles, CA; Kansas City, MO; Nashville, TN; or Washington, D.C. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (Job Overview): Aquatic Examiners are a key part of the American Red Cross Aquatic Examiner Service. They are front-line individuals who visit aquatic facilities across the country and provide direct services to these sites. Their feedback and reports assist management of aquatic facilities in developing procedures that recognize aquatic hazards and outline effective responses to aquatic emergencies. Aquatic Examiners provide support to community and full-service customers in their role as Instructors. They’re responsible for providing high quality instruction, providing necessary reports in a timely manner and properly maintaining equipment in their possession or under their delegated responsibility.

  • Combination of candidate’s education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description’s minimum education and general experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted).

Nice To Haves

  • Current American Red Cross certifications: Lifeguarding Instructor Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED Lifeguard Management
  • Appropriate basic-level certification for waterfront or water park evaluations
  • At least 3 years of experience teaching American Red Cross (or equivalent) Lifeguarding courses, with at least one class taught in the past year
  • Minimum 3 years of lifeguarding experience
  • Minimum 2 years in a lifeguard supervisory role
  • Strong knowledge of: American Red Cross Lifeguarding Program Aquatic Examiner Service Local and state regulations related to lifeguard operations
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook
  • Ability to work non‑standard hours, including weekends
  • Reside within 45 miles of an international airport

Responsibilities

  • Recording video of on-duty lifeguards both in an undercover capacity and while lifeguards demonstrate skills.
  • Reviewing aquatic facility documentation related to lifeguard operations.
  • Evaluating lifeguard performance in surveillance and emergency response skills on the job through on-site lifeguarding evaluations.
  • Preparing reports and completing evaluation forms, as required.
  • Identifying areas where aquatic facilities could improve lifeguarding operations and performance based on the American Red Cross Lifeguarding program.
  • Conducting in-service training sessions and/or aquatic emergency action plan drills.
  • Responsible for maintaining, managing, and storing all assigned equipment.
  • Responsible for efficient and effective use of resources. Adheres to the financial and travel policy regarding AES guidelines for booking travel arrangements.
  • Assist in service delivery engagement activities such as special assignments, performing product/process testing or providing general feedback as assigned by Service Delivery Leadership.
  • Teaches Red Cross Training Services instructors within their current certifications to businesses and to the community as needed.
  • Successfully participate in an in-person annual training course to maintain Aquatic Examiner appointment. Must demonstrate skill proficiency at the instructor-level (AES Examiner-level).
  • Commitment to provide at minimum 3 consecutive days per week from May-August of availability. No minimum availability requirements for off-season delivery.
