We are on the lookout for an energetic, visionary Aquatics Manager to lead our pools, programs, and people to new heights (and deeper depths)! Positions Directly Supervised: FT Aquatic Coordinator, FT Aquatic Programs Coordinator, FT Head Swim Team Coach. Position Purpose: Responsible for overseeing and programming various activities in Aquatics to maximize the use of the facility for both patrons and the Service Area. Candidate must possess a strong budgetary background with the ability to prepare, implement and evaluate effectively. Works with department heads to ensure optimal hiring, training, supervising, evaluating, coordinating, and scheduling of all Aquatics staff. Coordinates scheduling and staffing of all specialty classes. Candidate represents the Service Area at seminars, clinics, professional organizations, and community functions as appropriate.

Requirements

  • College degree in related area (Parks and Recreation) preferred; directly related experience may substitute educational requirements on a year by year basis.
  • Five years of experience in Recreation-Aquatics preferred.
  • Current American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent certification as of hire date.
  • Current American Red Cross First Aid or equivalent certification as of hire date.
  • Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or equivalent certification within six (6) months of hire date.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training or equivalent certification as of hire date.
  • Approved Criminal Background Investigation check if over 18 years of age.
  • Must pass a drug screen.
  • Knowledge of computer related applications.
  • Knowledge of American Red Cross policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of local and national aquatics policies and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of budget preparation, implementation and monitoring.
  • General knowledge of Aquatic recreation program planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • Understanding of Aquatic urban recreation needs and interests in the community.
  • General knowledge of facility supervision and management.
  • Preferred Five years recreation experience in Aquatics.
  • Two years of directly related supervisory experience.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent public relations and communications abilities.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Maintain composure in highly stressful situations.
  • Planning and organizational abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Current American Red Cross LGI preferred.
  • Preferred Five years recreation experience in Aquatics.

Responsibilities

  • Assume responsibility for effective planning, coordinating, and scheduling a variety of programs and facilities at the Service Area.
  • Ensure the scheduling of all swim lessons, master swim, and water fitness classes as assigned. Utilize input from patrons to ensure that participants’ needs are met. Coordinate the distribution of schedules to the public.
  • Schedules all pool activities to ensure optimum pool usage.
  • Ensure high program standards. Maintain close contact with American Red Cross and swim lesson provider to ensure that all Service Area sponsored courses meet their requirements. Administer and coordinate all Red Cross and other training classes.
  • Seek ways to continually improve program offerings and coordination.
  • Prepare reports as requested to the Board of Trustees. Provide input to the Executive Director and Board to assist in short and long range planning.
  • Coordinate annually with Canyon School District according to the contract.
  • Assume responsibility for ensuring the optimal performance of all assigned personnel.
  • Ensure the hiring of well qualified aquatics staff.
  • Coordinate the orientation, training, and evaluation of aquatics employees.
  • Conduct in-service training as necessary. Encourage opportunities for instructors to continue education outside of the Center.
  • Ensure that performance appraisals are completed by appropriate department heads.
  • Ensure adequate scheduling of aquatic staff.
  • Ensure proper certification of aquatic staff (and all other staff) as required.
  • Hold regular meetings as necessary with the Executive Director, Aquatic Team Coaches, Aquatic Coordinator, Aquatic Program Coordinator.
  • Assume responsibility for effectively performing general administration functions.
  • Attend all department head staff meetings as needed.
  • Maintains and coordinates an adequate inventory of first aid supplies for all Departments of the Service Area.
  • To ensure proper pool area maintenance, inspect pool regularly, and make suggestions for improved pool safety and operations to appropriate departments.
  • Prepares annual budget and continually monitors compliance throughout the year.
  • Assume responsibility for establishing and maintaining professional relations with business contacts and patrons.
  • Ensure that all programs within the realm of responsibility are effectively and efficiently directed. Swim meets and public programs project the Service Area’s professional reputation.
  • Receive patron complaints and suggestions and respond appropriately.
  • Provide and generate water safety presentations as requested by the community.
  • Administer surveys to determine public needs and obtain suggestions for program changes.
  • Represent the Service Area at public meetings, seminars, clinics, and professional gatherings as assigned.
  • Assume responsibility for completing related duties as required or assigned by the Executive Director.
  • Improves and upgrades qualifications, professional education, and job knowledge continually.
