About The Position

At CommuteAir, the APU Shop Supervisor oversees daily shop operations, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient maintenance, repair, and overhaul of APUs while meeting performance and turnaround targets. The role provides leadership to technicians, manages workload planning, ensures regulatory compliance, and coordinates with cross-functional teams to align operational priorities. This position also drives continuous improvement, maintains audit readiness, and ensures proper staffing, training, and equipment oversight to support overall shop performance.

Requirements

  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate required
  • Minimum 5 years of aviation maintenance experience, with at least 2 years in turbine engine, APU, or component repair environment
  • Minimum 1–2 years of leadership or lead experience in a maintenance environment
  • Strong working knowledge of FAA regulations (Part 121 and/or Part 145)
  • Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and enforce technical data and regulatory requirements
  • Experience with maintenance documentation, task sign-offs, and airworthiness determinations
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to safely drive tugs, trucks and hangar equipment, taxi aircraft, alert to moving vehicles and aircraft in the work area.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull and maneuver up to 50 lbs. regularly, bend, stoop, crawl, crouch, and kneel frequently, and often in confined spaces.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to hear instructions orally, in loud environments, and the ability to detect fine differences in sound that may or may not affect the repair or operation of aircraft.
  • Ability and willingness to wear personal protection equipment when necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous APU-specific maintenance or back shop experience
  • Experience managing shop throughput, turnaround time, and productivity metrics
  • Familiarity with maintenance tracking systems (AMOS preferred)
  • Experience supporting audits (FAA, QA, internal compliance)
  • Lean or continuous improvement experience (process optimization, cost reduction initiatives)
  • Experience supporting external customer repairs, vendor management, or cost accountability for component maintenance

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision and leadership of APU Shop Technicians, including workload planning and task assignment.
  • Ensure all maintenance is performed in accordance with FAA regulations, company policies, and manufacturer requirements.
  • Review and approve completed work packages, ensuring accuracy and completeness of documentation.
  • Monitor shop throughput, turnaround times, and operational performance against defined KPIs.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance Planning, Materials, and Maintenance Control to align shop priorities with operational demand.
  • Ensure proper staffing levels, training compliance, and technician qualification tracking.
  • Maintain oversight of tooling, test equipment, and calibration programs.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction, process efficiency, and reliability outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with safety programs, hazardous materials handling, and environmental requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits, including FAA and QA activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to technicians, including troubleshooting support and process standardization.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence within the shop.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of all positions at CommuteAir.
