About The Position

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) at OrthoArkansas provides comprehensive patient care within an orthopedic practice setting. This role is responsible for conducting patient assessments, developing and managing treatment plans, prescribing medications and therapies, and performing select medical procedures. The APRN collaborates closely with supervising physicians to deliver high-quality, patient-centered orthopedic care while ensuring accurate documentation, regulatory compliance, and effective patient education.

Requirements

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing (MSN or DNP).
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as an APRN.
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Current Arkansas Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Current Arkansas Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license – Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP).
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Basic: Alphanumeric data entry, word processing/typing, and clinical documentation systems.
  • Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and patient counseling abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple patients and priorities efficiently.
  • Commitment to patient safety, quality care, and professional standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Orthopedic clinical experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Assessment & Clinical Care:
  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations of patients presenting with acute and chronic orthopedic conditions.
  • Formulate diagnoses and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Perform sports physicals and other clinical evaluations as needed.
  • Collect and analyze subjective and objective patient data through examinations, interviews, and record review.
  • Prescribing & Treatment Management:
  • Prescribe medications and treatment orders including physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT), imaging studies, and durable medical equipment (DME).
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as clinically appropriate.
  • Procedures & Clinical Interventions:
  • Perform procedures such as joint injections, joint aspirations, intramuscular injections, wound care, cultures, simple laceration repairs, and joint dislocation reductions as appropriate.
  • Adhere to all safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Documentation & Systems Use:
  • Accurately enter progress notes, event notes, phone documentation, and all patient information into the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Complete FMLA forms, school notes, and other required documentation.
  • Become proficient in the electronic health record system, prescription monitoring database, and other frequently used clinical systems.
  • Patient Education & Communication:
  • Educate and counsel patients regarding diagnoses, treatment options, medications, and recovery expectations.
  • Maintain effective communication with patients while ensuring confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Collaboration & Care Coordination:
  • Collaborate closely with supervising physicians, especially for complex, unusual, or high-risk cases requiring physician consultation or intervention.
  • Support overall clinic operations through teamwork and effective communication with clinical staff.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support patient care and clinic operations.
