About The Position

The Advanced Practice Nurse/Physician Assistant (APRN/PA) will be a vital member of the Hepatology/Gastroenterology Team within the Division of Gastroenterology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). This provider will assist physicians with clinic operations, organize patient visits, and perform clinic procedures. They will also serve as a high-level clinical extender, working both independently and collaboratively with supervising physicians to manage patient care across inpatient and outpatient settings. The APRN/PA will perform clinical assessments, assist with care coordination, answer MyChart and in-basket messages, respond to patient questions and phone calls, and manage prescriptions. In the outpatient clinic, they will see new and follow up patients and follow up on pathology and imaging, and ensure patients receive comprehensive education and appropriate follow-up. The provider must possess a high level of clinical expertise to assess, diagnose, and treat actual and potential problems in patients. The APRN/PA will serve as a key communicator between the care team and patients, ensuring timely, complete, and accurate information sharing.

Requirements

  • APRN Master’s Degree in Nursing
  • Three years of nursing experience
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in Arkansas
  • APRN License
  • Master's Education
  • PA Licensure

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates specialized, multidisciplinary care and facilitates consults of patients to ensure timely and appropriate treatment.
  • Provides comprehensive health assessments, determines diagnoses, implements treatment plans, prescribes medical treatments, and manages health issues for patients in collaboration with the designated physician.
  • Collaborates with a variety of health care professionals to diagnose and manage patients' health care problems, serving as a resource, interdisciplinary consultant, and patient advocate.
  • Manages post procedure immunosuppression and labs of the patient in coordination with the physician and pharmacist.
  • Participates in institutional initiatives and encourages the participation of others.
  • Collaborates in policy and program development, implementation, and evaluation using best practices in delivering quality service.
  • Edits and documents results in various critical care systems
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
