About The Position

The Apprentice - Construction is an entry-level position that will be part of the Progress Construction team. The individual will work closely with a mentor in the field and complete assigned training during the 180-day apprenticeship. The Apprentice will be involved in assisting with residential repair and maintenance as well as some project coordination. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Must be 21 or older
  • Valid driver’s license in the working state
  • Must meet company MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) driver eligibility requirements
  • Good communication skills (both oral & written)
  • Basic understanding of residential maintenance and repair, including identifying common issues with building systems and components.
  • Employee provides basic hand tools suitable for residential diagnostics and service
  • Strong customer service and professional communication (oral/written); tactful with vendors and team members.
  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Regularly stand/sit for extended periods; climb stairs multiple times daily.
  • Lift/carry up to 50 lbs. with ease, perform tasks indoors/outdoors in varying weather conditions

Nice To Haves

  • Technical school graduate preferred
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, flooring, appliances, landscaping/irrigation preferred.
  • company may supply specialty tools/equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing basic condition reports, estimates, and change notes under the guidance of a supervisor or mentor.
  • Learn to communicate scope, schedule, and cost updates in a timely and professional manner.
  • Identify simple tasks that can be self‑performed to help reduce cycle times and overall project costs.
  • Support the coordination and scheduling of work with the Construction Superintendent and Project Manager
  • Practice clear, professional communication with vendors and internal stakeholders.
  • Participate in quality control walks with your mentor and assist with creating punch lists.
  • Help verify work completion against company standards.
  • Capture job documentation, including electronic forms, notes, and photos.
  • Learn to recognize and report unsafe or non‑compliant conditions.
  • Assist with or perform basic repairs, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting, including:
  • Follow workplace safety practices and learn OSHA, EPA, HAZCOM, ADA, Fair Housing, and lead‑based paint requirements.
  • Report repairs, supply needs, and requisitions before making purchases.
