About The Position

This role is for a Master's/PhD interested in machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, automated reasoning, robotics, or quantum technologies. The successful candidate will be a self-starter comfortable with ambiguity, strong attention to detail, and able to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. As an Applied Scientist, you will own the design and development of end-to-end systems, create technical roadmaps, and drive production-level projects supporting Amazon Science. You will collaborate closely with Amazon scientists and other science interns to develop solutions and deploy them into production. The ideal scientist must be able to work with diverse groups of people and cross-functional teams to solve complex business problems. Amazon Science gives insight into the company’s approach to customer-obsessed scientific innovation, believing it is essential to being the most customer-centric company in the world. The company's ability to have an impact at scale attracts some of the brightest minds in artificial intelligence and related fields. Our scientists use a working backwards method to enrich the way we live and work. The PayStation Intelligence (Pi) team is the sole Applied Science team in Amazon Payments, with a vision to ensure every payment interaction across Amazon is predicted, protected, and resolved autonomously through ML and agentic AI, eliminating payment-related customer friction before it occurs and operational toil after it does. The Pi team owns problem formulation, feature engineering, model development, experimentation, evaluation, and production model monitoring for the AI solutions it works on across the entire Amazon Payments organization and its business clients. The team's solutions extend beyond Global Payments Tech teams to serving Amazon Payments clients like Amazon Pay and business clients including Prime, Prime Video, and customer-facing AI assistants like Rufus. Pi operates across GenAI (Generative Artificial Intelligence) - LLM and agentic AI capabilities that automate operational workflows, accelerate developer experiences, and enable frictionless payment interactions for end customers through solutions like PayStation Ada and Rufus's Payments Domain Agent.
