About The Position

Position Overview: Flender, located in Elgin, IL is seeking a professional, qualified and energetic Applications Engineer (AE) to focus primarily on its WIND market and secondary focus on its Industrial drives organization. The AE will play a significant role in business generation of Wind Turbine Gear Box repairs by offering timely solutions that best fits our customers’ needs and ensuring competitive pricing. The AE will work closely with Flender’s Aftermarket Sales, its German and other foreign affiliates, and customers in the industrial, construction and utility markets on technical, contractual and commercial issues. Duties will also include supporting projects and initiatives to ensure optimal plant performance, efficiency, and safety. Position Description: Provide technical repair solutions and documentation for mechanical drives and components for Wind (primary) and Industrial gear units. Provide technical assistance to sales, production, logistical, and quality teams. Will be involved with root cause analysis topics on all products: Winergy, Moventas, Multi-Brand, and Industry units. Duties will also include participation in audits for both internal and external (Customer, ISO, etc.). Supporting projects and initiatives to ensure optimal plant performance, efficiency, and safety. Communicate results to support internal and external Customer needs by using an efficient utilization of resources. Interface with team members to support Sales, Project Manager(s), technical teams, division and product-line management. Promote maximum Customer satisfaction with Flender’s capabilities and potential, and Flender’s equipment reliability and availability. Ensure the Customer's technical needs are adequately addressed.

Requirements

  • Engineering Degree (Mechanical or equivalent)
  • Strong organizational skills
  • 0 to 3 years of technical knowledge and assembly with Gear Drives (Winergy and / or Multi-Brand)
  • Ability to analyze customer’s technical specifications, mechanical drawings, dimensional tolerancing and data comprehension.
  • Excellent team player with ability to work independently and perform and prioritize multiple, simultaneous tasks while maintaining excellent customer service.
  • Excellent communications skills to effectively and accurately communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Proficient PC skills including Microsoft Office tools, Outlook, SAP (a plus), TeamCenter (a plus).
  • Familiarity with ANSI, ISO, DIN and NEMA standards.

  • 3-D modeling experience a plus

Responsibilities

  • Identifying repair requirements and advise alternatives for gear box assemblies.
  • Assembling equipment Bill of Materials and presenting cost requests.
  • Align directly with Sales team to provide technical support
  • Provide assistance in identifying assembly processes or identifying assembly sub-contractors.
  • Provide technical direction to develop Gear Box testing and qualification processes.
  • Research, design, evaluate, and maintain parametric components, assemblies, drawings, part layouts applying a good, sound knowledge of engineering principles.
  • Confer with engineers or other personnel to implement operating and other process procedures, resolve system malfunctions, or provide technical information.
  • Conduct research that tests or analyzes the feasibility, design, operation, or performance of equipment, components, or systems.
  • Develop and test models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess feasibility, operating condition effects, possible new applications, and necessity of modification.
  • Specify components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
  • Research and analyze customer sales orders, design proposals, specifications, manuals, or other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, or maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
  • Keeps abreast of industry and legal trends.
  • Ensures effective cooperation with both internal and external stakeholders; clarifies issues.
  • Process Engineering- Interact with Production to evaluate the origin of assembly line issues.
  • Root cause problems to determine if an internal or supplier nonconformance corrective action is required.
  • Create Quality notifications in SAP as necessary to document non-conformances related to unit repairs.
  • Align directly with vendors to resolve technical inquiries.
  • Interact with Purchasing to facilitate the replacement of discrepant material for the assembly line.
  • Create / update Work Standards as provided by parent office to maintain correct revision levels.
  • Participate in internal, customer, and supplier audits.
  • Review Customer’s specifications.
  • Contributes to the goal setting for specific projects, as required.
  • Assist in maintain documentation compliant with the ISO regulations.
  • Support to production and other shop departments in technical related issues.
  • Manage priorities in order to meet business needs.
