About The Position

The Applications Engineer is expected to lead Pre-Sale activity, while also leading Post-Sale execution for Systems Projects. The Applications Engineer uses a combination of analytical thinking, problem solving skills, and industry experience to evaluate customer applications and design practical solutions, as well as ensure those solutions are prepared for proper execution and final installation. The Applications Engineer may guide the Sales Lead and/or client strategically in solution development to ensure optimal returns and project justification. In the absence of a Sales Lead, the Applications Engineer may be responsible for developing the client relationship.

Requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and self-discipline
  • 3-5 Years of commercial business to business sales experience
  • Bachelors degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering desired
  • Knowledge of material handling products including static storage systems, automation solutions, goods-to-person fulfillment systems, and WMS/WCS software solutions
  • Experience with remote desktop applications.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have a strong desire to learn and master warehousing principles along with emerging technologies
  • Communication skills with a focus on public speaking as well as written.
  • Details oriented with solid organizational skills

Nice To Haves

  • Background in material handling solution selling is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support sales staff on joint calls, as well as make independent calls, to evaluate customer needs by reviewing their current processes, material flow, and equipment.
  • Conduct surveys to gather field data. Areas of focus may include process time studies, physical space measurements, equipment identification and documentation, etc.
  • Utilize industry experience to design material handling systems, specifying equipment and generating space design layouts for customer applications, using CAD software (to include vendor-specific software).
  • Concept/Evaluate/Design automated solutions and partner with automation vendors to provide priced solutions to meet system specifications.
  • Generate and support presentations of technical system proposals.
  • Lead Project Management for Systems projects.
  • Oversee the PeakLogix PM/site manager, while driving focus on schedule, field execution, budget management, and customer communication.
  • Work closely with automation vendors to verify solutions meet specification requirements, overseeing FAT/SAT exercises.
  • Create Bill of Materials and/or drawing specifications for use during installation.
  • Acquire quotations and initiate corresponding purchase orders for engineered equipment.
  • Ensure systems meet all applicable company and engineering standards, polices, or details.
  • Provide consulting services focused on facility layout to include incorporation of automation solutions.
  • Pursue and evaluate new industry developments, equipment, methodologies, etc. through industry publications, shows, and general research.
  • Advise on/initiate any applicable new technologies/vendors.
