About The Position

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. You will be a primary technical resource for the Strobic sales team and department. As an Application Engineer, you will work closely with regional sales managers, manufacturers’ representatives, select customers, and internal departments such as inside sales team. You will play a crucial role in assisting customers to identify technical specifications and determine what is required to incorporate the organization’s products into customer applications. Key criteria include engineering application and design experience, technical skills, sound engineering and business judgement, strong communication skills, broad knowledge of the industry, initiative and innovation, and the ability to simultaneously keep track of multiple projects.

Requirements

  • At least 3+ years of experience in an application engineering role
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills, with ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and effectively implement changes
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-function teams at all levels (production to management)
  • Familiarity with application engineering principles and the ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency in software tools such as MS Office and selection tools
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications, including the ability to develop summary graphs, tables, pivot tables, and other reports
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field

Nice To Haves

  • 3-5 years of experience in an application engineering role, preferably in fans, blowers, and/or critical environments
  • Degree in Application Engineering preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintain expert level of product knowledge and application.
  • Articulate technology and product positioning of both business and technical users.
  • Respond to functional and technical elements of RFI/RFQ.
  • Listen, understand and convey customer requirements.
  • Perform technical and product training for sales personnel, sales representatives and customers.
  • Assist product development in developing new and/or enhanced products by communicating trends, needs, and issues in the marketplace.
  • Evaluate needs of the customer and provide technical solutions that best fit the company’s product portfolio.
  • Assist in pricing special options and special fans.
  • Develop effective up-front strategies based on thorough analysis of project variables, thus maximizing the likelihood of winning jobs.
  • Provide design and specification development support for sales representatives and customers.
  • Adhere to existing processes while challenging aspects when appropriate and making improvements accordingly
  • Develop application notes that clearly describe how the organization’s products should be used in the customer’s target application.
  • Participate in the design and development of new engineering processes, equipment, and systems.
