About The Position

Axalta Coating Systems is seeking an Application Engineer to join our Industrial Building Products Technology Group in High Point, North Carolina. The Engineer will apply and advance our fundamental understanding of coatings application technology in support of Axalta's growth initiatives. This includes product testing at customers and in Axalta’s application lab, recommending enhancements & modifications to improve coating performance while also improving efficiency of the application equipment and processes. The role of Engineer will report into the Solvent Based Technology/Application Engineer Team Leader. The Engineer will support testing of water based and solvent based products for end use markets including Kitchen Cabinetry, Exterior Siding, and Furniture.

Requirements

  • Candidate MUST have Coatings or Paint Industry experience on the Application Engineering side.
  • We are seeking candidates with at least 1 year experience minimum.
  • High School graduate.
  • 1-5 years of coating application engineering experience, including experience within the paint and/or coatings industry.
  • Proficient in coating applications knowledge and techniques over a wide range of technology and equipment
  • Successful line design with equipment vendors and with customers
  • Utilizes advanced industry and product applications concepts and procedures
  • Provides operational and technical guidance and advice to improve quality, efficiency and line design.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, Operations Management or related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical assistance while the team is working to gain new business and to existing customers; operates under limited supervision and solves complex problems that require project management principles and responds to questions and concerns; communicates advanced equipment and technical specifications and establishes line and operational guidelines. Develop SOPs with customers.
  • Provides advanced technical direction and assistance to customers on application of all applicable product lines; works with a wide range of finish line equipment providing expert advice, assistance and trouble shooting.
  • Serves as a technical and operational advisor to customers, receives direction when required, applies advanced general quality tools and analytical concepts to assist with improving product quality, efficiency and line design.
  • Assists with facilitating growth of the business by collaborating with the customers and Axalta’s technology/sales teams, interacting with all levels of personnel, developing a complete understanding of the needs of the customer and providing information to the sales, research and development and technical service teams.
  • Assists equipment suppliers and vendors to properly review product specifications, new or updated equipment needs and other activities to ensure quality and efficiency of both internal and customer operations including facilitation of new product development.
  • Conduct line audits and surveys and communicate results and customer finishing goals to customer and to R&D. Work with R&D as a resource for initial product application validation testing and general equipment training.
  • Interprets and applies department policies and procedures to ensure compliance with principles, practices, applicable laws, rules, and regulations; Work safely and maintain a neat laboratory application area
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), problem solving capabilities and the ability to work both independently and as a part of a team Providing advanced customer technical service Apply advanced principles and practices within multiple applications areas.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 75% of the time with possible international travel
