About The Position

Judd Wire Inc., a Sumitomo Electric Group company, is seeking an Application Engineer - Aerospace for their Turners Falls, MA office. This role involves joining the Design and Development team, with a focus on wire and cable manufacturing for the Aerospace industry. The engineer will be a key member of cross-functional teams, contributing to the development of new products, and maintaining and improving standards for existing products and product platforms. The position requires identifying problems and implementing solutions related to product performance, design, or materials within the company, as well as communicating with customers to address inquiries about product application and performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant Engineering field with applicable coursework or experience.
  • Knowledge of basic principles of wire conductors and insulators, current flow, and electric circuits.
  • Effective technical writing skills for internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work within or lead cross-functional teams to solve engineering problems.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 to 3 years of experience in the wire and cable manufacturing or related industry.
  • Knowledge in specifications, standards and product testing protocols for Aerospace wire and cable.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain material and product specifications, bills of material, and manufacturing instructions for existing product platforms.
  • Maintain and improve design standards for existing products.
  • Evaluate and implement improvements to products and instructions to achieve quality, cost, and efficiency improvements.
  • Review external specifications and document requirements to maintain product compliance.
  • Provide technical support to Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Quality concerning product design and testing.
  • Participate in design review and corrective action meetings for production products to resolve problems in design and workmanship.
  • Design and develop Aerospace wire and cable in support of new business opportunities.
  • Work as member of cross-functional team to develop new product platforms and platform extensions.
  • Understand relevant industry and customer specifications and existing products to inform development decisions.
  • Participate in customer meetings to understand customer input for current and future products.
  • Learn application engineering guidance for Aerospace wire and cable and provide answers to customers requesting standard information.
  • Create test reports for customers and qualifying agencies to maintain product approvals.
  • Assist with tasks and/or projects assigned by direct manager or senior management.
  • Perform other similar duties as within the department, or as assigned by manager.
  • Coordinate with Engineering team to share supporting task workload as appropriate.
