About The Position

The application developer/administrator intern will work under general supervision and will develop, test, analyze, and assist with maintaining software applications to support Platte River Power Authority's business objectives. This summer internship focuses on developing clear, user friendly documentation for integrations, ServiceNow workflows and other IT business application processes. The intern will use tools like HTML editors, Visio, Snagit and SharePoint to create written content, screenshots, and visuals to write knowledge base articles or other documentation formats. This internship is based at Platte River's headquarters and is offered as either a 3-month (40 hours per week) a summer internship. Interested parties should reside within a commutable distance of Fort Collins. This posting will remain active until April 13.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of relational databases and SQL with ability to create queries and join data
  • Understanding of programming languages, coding methods, web architecture and integration protocols
  • Ability to learn and assimilate new technologies
  • Exposure to project management concepts and methodologies
  • Ability to work productively as a team member with a desire to learn and contribute to the departments’ work needs
  • Good communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills that foster productive working relationships
  • Motivation and willingness to work with general supervision and receive feedback while learning
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in the field of computer information systems or related field of study
  • Completion of basic coursework relevant to application software design, development and relational database technology
  • Experience working with Microsoft platforms
  • Experience working in the IT field or participation in one or more IT-related academic projects

Responsibilities

  • Under direct supervision and guidance, works with third party and internally developed software applications throughout their lifecycles to ensure proper functionality, usability, reliability, security and performance
  • Assists in the research, design, modification and documentation of business application software systems in alignment with customer specifications
  • Performs application software development activities according to defined standards, specifications and schedules
  • Performs coding, scripting, integration, database and other types of technical work as necessary to implement new or enhanced application software functionality
  • Reviews software changes with appropriate IT staff prior to releasing them for production use
  • Monitors, debugs and modifies software applications as needed for performance and reliability
  • Coordinates with other IT staff and customers to identify, schedule and implement patches, releases or upgrades
  • Assists with troubleshooting issues
  • Assists other technology team members as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned
