Requirements

  • Requires an Associate's Degree
  • Minimum of two (2) years of related experience
  • A combination of education and pertinent experience may be considered
  • Registered Code Enforcement Officer certification required within one (1) year of hire
  • A valid driver's license is required. Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Responsibilities

  • Will perform complex duties including the identification, investigation, and initiation of corrective action for violations of City Solid Waste Operations municipal codes.
  • Interact with public to provide information and assistance in complying with City ordinances.
  • Schedule and attend periodic collection events to assure that collection containers are available in residential areas and are being used as intended.
  • Perform a wide variety of educational outreach activities to inform and assist the public in proper disposal/recycling of waste.
  • Receive, record, and investigate violation complaints.
  • Document violations by securing photographs and other pertinent evidence.
  • Inspect right-of-way for ordinance violations such a littering, improper set-out of garbage and recycle carts, and /or obstruction of streets and sidewalks.
  • Inspect and monitor the proper transport of solid waste by citizens and commercial haulers, checking for proper securing/covering of loads at JC Elliot Landfill.
  • Inspect and ensure work is performed in accordance with the street sweeping and storm drain inlet contract.
  • Maintain files, databases and other records pertinent to all aspects of program responsibilities, including schedules for monitoring trouble areas that require more frequent monitoring, follow-up investigations, and public presentations.
  • Assist with special projects by conducting damage assessments and execute functions under actual conditions in aftermath of a disaster.
  • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.
